I think my PSU died

Thread Starter
So, my brother was using my PC and it started rebooting for no reason. At first he thought that it was a windows problem, since it would only work in safe mode. However, I tried to boot in my linux OS and happened the same thing. Now it doesn't even reach the MOBO bios screen before restarting.

I'm almost sure that it is a PSU problem (the one in the signature that is 5 years old). Can you confirm this? If so, can you suggest me a new one? My budget is tight and for future proofing I was thinking something around 700W to handle 2 gpus and overclocking

I would blame the psu to be honest. Amd recomends 500Watt for Single and 600Watts for Xfire, but on your CPU you have right now what you have should be fine for a single card.

XFX650 and HX650 would be the psus to watch out for. The XFX is usually priced very reasonably.

Wouldn't the Corsair GS700 be a better choice?

Isn't Channel Well known for producing really bad PSUs? Didn't a company stop using them as OEM because of the horrible quality?

This happened many years ago, with cwt using defective capacitors. They have been fine since, unless you buy some horrendous off brand junk contracted to cwt. I would not get the gs700 over xfx or hx 650, as those are both higher quality psus. If you want a bit more wattage, stay within the same quality range, the cx/gs/tx Corsairs are not on par with their hx/ax series.

The Latest GS series are not too shabby actually, take a look at this review of the GS800V2 and they are not too far behind the AX/HX and in some cases you see it match them.

here is the full review of a GS 800 v2

and here is one point of it matching an AX 850

Now of course i would not tell someone to buy a GS 800 over a AX850 if they were the same price but i would not tell them to avoid it if it was slightly cheaper either (usually are) but it's certainly food for thought.

Personally i do not buy power supply's by the brand or model i usually look at tests and reviews to decide what i buy.
