Displayport Link Failure with Korean 27" Eyefinity

post #1 of 19
Thread Starter
Ok so I'm going to type this out for the second time since it decided to not post the first time, and then pretended I never typed it out as I stared at a blank post... --_--

So anyways, I have 3 x Crossover 27Q LED-P's. Centre screen is plugged into my 7970 via the DVI-D port, and both sides are using a minidisplayport to DVI-D adapter, the expensive kind with a USB cable.

When the adapter first arrived today it all worked fine, I got eyefinity working but opening a game caused the monitors to continuously lose signal and turn on and off. I could reproduce it again with the same game, then in minecraft, and then it started happening on the desktop.
Now I can't run all 3 screens at once.

As it currently stands, centre + left screen works fine on the desktop. Centre + right screen works fine on desktop. All 3 and they repeatedly lose signal and flash.
Even with both sides turned off, if they are physically plugged in at the same time the centre screen will turn off repeatedly.

The more interesting part is when I'm on the windows log on screen, or just the ctrl+alt+del screen, all 3 can be on at the same time without issue. Once I log in the screens all start turning off until I either unplug one or go back to the log on screen. BIOS also displays on both side screens and not the centre..

Anyone else found a fix to this issue yet?
I've seen very few posts where someone else encountered similar things with the korean monitors but nobody ever posted a solution, the threads just ended..

It's not the Korean screens. It's the Chinese adapters.

What version of 7970 do you have? I don't think the card is the issue but there is always the chance... Some 7970's use 2 Dual Link DVI ports but when you use a specific Display port it turns one of the DVI slots into single link DVI and since you mentioned it was the DVI-D slot I thought rare but possibly the cause (although you probably wouldn't get any output at all from that plug)

These adapters can be finicky what adapter did you get? Have you tried changing the USB ports they are plugged into?
post #5 of 19
Thread Starter
@pandatoucher:
It's a Sapphire 7970 with only 1 DVI-D output, no second DVI slot at all

I have switched the usb plugs on both a couple times thinking they weren't getting enough power, now they are both in USB3 ports just in case.

I have a Bizlink adapter and Monoprice adapter

@Thracks & Doomtomb:
I don't understand how it can be the adapter's fault when both are brand new, from different companies so not the same type, and they both work when used alone. It's only when I plug them both in at the same time that it has problems.

Also on the windows logon screen everything works fine.. I'm not 100% sure about this but I assumed the display drivers were not loaded until you log in to windows, which to me suggests the drivers are causing problems by not outputting a consistent signal.
I was going to attempt to use 11.* drivers instead of the latest beta drivers I'm currently using but haven't been able to find a reliable download source. Guru3D.com would keep stopping around 50% download.

Thanks for the suggestions so far

which drivers were they? Can't help with your problem directly but I would say it seems like a driver issue. I can download and reup the file from guru if you want

The download problem may have just been an issue with my internet connection, seems to be working now.
I'll try out 11.12 and report back with how it goes

Since the very first time I touched 12.* I've had various problems, and that was before I even bought these screens or my 7970

RC11 rocks. I've gotten DP synch problems with most of the 12.x drivers. 12.6 and up have supposedly fixed it but still sometimes the DP screen flickers. I always end up back on RC11.

For the bios only showing on 2 screens out of 3+ its normal, i have the same thing.
for the screens acting weird, i have no idea.

if a normal displayport cable supports up to 1600p displays, try and get 3x miniDP -> DP cables, its what i did for my U2312hm's

Installed 11.12 drivers, suddenly eyefinity works fine and I played F.E.A.R.3 in 7680x1440p for over an hour without a hitch.

Problem is, however in desktop mode or in the pause screen for the game.. whenever I have a cursor. The cursor is really slow to move across the screen and unresponsive/laggy. It has nothing to do with sensitivity because that would imply smooth movement but this is just erratic.

So I'm now googling around for this problem to see if it's related or simple to fix.

@AoHxBram, I only have 2 miniDP outputs so a 3rd adapter wouldn't work, and the reason I mentioned the BIOS showing on side screens is it's displaying on the miniDP outputs and not through the regular DVI-D output which I find odd.

I would have thought it would have the main DVI-D as priority before loading windows.
