Hello, on 120hz monitor and use NVIDIA Inspector to put frame limiter on 58fps will i still get screen tearing or is it better just turn off frame limiter?

I was under the impression that, as long as your frame rate is lower than your refresh rate, you won't get screen tearing.

Is your monitor true 120Hz or does it do frame-interpolation?

Sorry need to say that im still looking on buying 120hz monitor. Using Vsync is not an option because of input lag, i had 120hz monitor i did notice that i had les screen tearing if not any. But i never did a test to cap fps with frame limiter to 58 and using 120hz.

Right now im playing with 60hz and capped fps to 58, yes im getting screen tearing, but no input lag, and i do see different when turning on Vsync.

This is why you still get tearing
Quote:
Basically you have a frame buffer and a back buffer. Whenever the monitor grabs a frame to refresh with, it pulls it from the frame buffer. The video card draws new frames in the back buffer, then copies it to the frame buffer when it's done. However the copy operation still takes time, so if the monitor refreshes in the middle of the copy operation, it will still have a torn image.

My advice:

1) Get a 120Hz monitor and make sure it's running at 120Hz.
2) Turn on V-Sync - at 120Hz V-Sync causes negligible lag.
3) Turn on Triple Buffering - this will ensure that V-Sync doesn't cause your frame rate to drop.
= No tearing, no compromise.

The idea of capping your frame rate just below your refresh rate (58fps at 60Hz or 118fps at 120Hz) was never a solution for tearing. I don't know where you got that idea. What it's supposed to do is reduce V-Sync lag, and it does seem to work. The problem is that it can also cause some game engines to stutter slightly.

There's no point using a 58fps/118fps frame cap unless you're using V-Sync, and as I said, with a 120Hz monitor it isn't required even if you are using V-Sync as the lag is already minimal.

I have no idea where this myth came from, but it's disturbingly prevalent these days.
