After failed Pre-build, FINALLY I BUILD MY OWN~! - Page 9

Friend, I have been in your shoes and made a bad computer purchase before, it happens, everyone here has probably done it. The important part is sucking it up, being able to admit it and call yourself on it. At this point you're just arguing with established truths which have been found by countless, hands on, users. Trusting a youtube video is not smart, we're not about bling here, we're about results, if you want the best of them, we'd love to help you......if you're receptive to it.

If you can't return your amazon cards then it is what it is, if you can, please at least consider it, it wasn't the best purchase. Take your GPU budget and buy the single best card you can. No matter how big your parents TV is, they do not need a dedicated video card. A 23" monitor, a 47" TV, a 60" TV, they are all running 1920x1080 pixels, or in market talk, 1080p. It takes the exact same amount of processing power to run any one of them. Again, let me repeat: SIZE DOES NOT MATTER, ONLY RESOLUTION. No TV streaming media needs a dedicated card due to the current level of integrated gpu's in the processors such as Llano/Trinity/Core iX. Get them an integrated unit and bring that portion of the budget back to your SINGLE GPU card.

If you want a PSU calculator you don't want to use one from someone who makes money from the sale. I've seen one predict 800w when unfallable math from OEM spec sheets showed a 350w load. If you want a trust worthy PSU calc. for the future go here: http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp , I've been using that one for years and it's always given decent results. Not only is it simple overkill, and costing you more out of your total budget, but being to far under the rated load of a PSU makes it run less efficiently, so now you're pulling more from the wall to run the same load because of an improperly sized PSU, which in turn will cost you more every month from the power company.

The whole i7/i5 debate....do you need an i7? No, if you have to have one that's fine. But go into it knowing that nothing you're doing will use it. Those extra threads are best used for things like video conversion/compression, protein folding, etc. and in no way are even used in a game or normal multi-tasking for that matter. Doing lots of things on any modern quad core such as spread sheets, music, videos, etc. will use maybe 30% of your horsepower as is. And in many cases an i7 has at times caused worse performance in games then an i5. And when you comb through enough reviews you start to notice that an i5 will be as good as an i7 in a game, but an i7 will not always be as good as an i5 in a game. Hyperthreading has cases of not playing nicely with games and can cut a few fps, but at best is usually just the same.

Again, I'm not trying to make anything off of talking with you about your computer, I do it because I enjoy the craft, and I want to see you succeed. Please bring yourself to quit trying to protect what you've already done, and let's work together to get you in the best possible position moving forward!

Regards,
Pao

It depends on what size your playing on. Most people do not have a $250+ monitor.
Ultra settings on 1600x900 is not maxed out IMO. I consider maxed out to be at least 1920x1080 on Ultra with AA/AF cranked up all the way. Also, you can quite easily get a good 1080p monitor for $150.

I read the stuff on like a giant auto books found in Toyota. But its not a toyota book. It's based on statistics. And can you really argue for American Cars? Cadillac admitted themselves that their cars aren't build to last; it's luxury , Pontiac; well most are parked in garages because they can't be driven LOL, Ford; well they have the cheapest parts, but there's a reason why it has next to nothing resale value, ect ect..need i say more

Where did you see this? False false false. I have 6 american cars. Have they EVER broken down? NO. Tell me. What trucks are there that are non american. That can haul things. And I want to buy this truck in america. My 1989 Chevy runs just as well as when we first got it. And still hauls well. Grr, American cars are just fine. 16x a year? Thats more than once a month...

the video card is still crappy, as it were on your pre built..

just ordered myself a second pc, i3 2120 and hd 6850. ( card was 135$) and it's better than gtx 460 wich is 7% better than 550ti...

Anyway, beginner is beginner! Hope you won't do the same mistake the next time lol

ill admit, being an SRT guy, im no fan of chevy, but my grandpa still drives his 1970 pickup that to this day, the only thing it has ever needed more than normal upkeep was the rockers adjusted. over 250k miles and its still running. thats amazing.
