Rushed a bit by buying a new PSU

Thread Starter
Well, the title tells.

I had a cheap PSU named "Energon" 750W and i heard quite a lot of bad things about them. So i decided to buy a new before it was too late.
Also i wanted to go power efficient so im aiming for the GTX 670 too which eats less power than my current GPU (Or what?)

"Be Quiet!" got quite a good reputation through it's very underrated. Not a lot of people know about it or just don't talk about it.
They are known for their CPU Coolers, Case Fans and also their PSU's

Well i just bought a PSU by them because it was on a discount and they got alot of positive response but here is my specs.

CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K
GPU: GeForce GTX 275
RAM: 12 GB Kingston
Motherboard: ASUS Maximus GENE-Z *EDIT* This is a Micro-ATX Motherboard
1 - 500 GB Seagate
1 - DVD-ROM

PSU: Be Quiet! Straight Power E8 500W
Cheap PSU: Energon 750W

Is 500W enough?

Here some info about the Be Quiet! PSU: http://www.bequiet.com/en/powersupply/218

So far i played a few games without any errors of any kind. But i would like to know more.

I feel like i rushed too quickly even if PSU Calculators told me that 450 or less was enough.

I'm not too sure about the brand Be Cool. I think that it's Silver Certified, but you can never go wrong with getting a Seasonic PSU. As for the wattage, never trust those PSU calculators, they're usually useless, only telling theoretical data whereas the real time value depends on the loads, condition, etc.

500W of power would be less. I'd recommend at least 600W for a single card in your system. Either of these two PSU's should be good for you:

It should be perfectly fine with everything on stock speed. I'm not so sure if you want to overclock a little in the future. You might pull it off if those 4 rails are properly done in the unit.

If your budget couldn't support a psu like Corsair GS600, then that BeQuiet should be ok for awhile.

I've heard some good things about the Be Quiet! brand but never any bad, but they still aren't very popular (I'm guessing because they are international). I personally have always (and I'm sure I'll get crap for this) been a fan of OCZ PSUs. I've had one in my build for 4 years, still going strong. My friend has had one in his build for 3 years and I just put one in another friend's a year ago. I like them because they are pretty cheap and from what I've seen they are still good quality. And yes people have had issues with them, but people have also had issues with Corsair and Seasonic PSUs as well.

For a single GPU build, a 500-550w would be plenty. If you want the extra cushion for peace of mind, you could get a 600-650w, but I wouldn't get anything over that. I bought a 700w because I planned on doing Crossfire, but I never did so now I have a ton of extra power just laying around. I could easily get by with a 450-500w.

Well for now and the next month i can not afford anything.
But i havent overclocked anything at all. It's all at it's stock speed.
So you think if i just stay away from overclock this would be fine?

Also do you think that a GTX 670 would suit me better in this case? It eats less power after all.

The difference between the 275 and the 670 will be ~50w. If you were to get the 500w Be Quiet! PSU it should be more than enough for either of the cards, and even provide room for some slight to moderate OCing.

Well i already got it. As said i ordered it too quickly before reading on forums which was a mistake.
But it seems like it's enough after all, thanks for the advice.

Additional posts about this are appreciated too.

It's a solid PSU, is a custom FSP Epsilon, a more recent iteration of the platform. It's plenty for your needs, it's quiet and it should be reliable as well.

Your talking about that FSP Epsilon or the Be Quiet?
