DVI to HDMI problem

Thread Starter
I've recently bought a DVI to HDMI cable for my pc to connect to my 42" LG LF7700 tv and everytime I switch between devices like my PS3, 360 or Sky+ HD box and go back to the HDMI port the pc is connected to my desktop icons are all over the place, is there a way to stop this happening? Also can you get sound from DVI to HDMI from an XFX Radeon HD 4650?

Do you normally use an actual monitor for your pc, or just the tv? I know if the monitor is different resolution than the tv then my icons were everywhere as well. It might just be because it is a larger screen could have something to do with it. Do you ever switch from monitor to tv? Or is it always connected to the tv and does this everytime you turn it on even after correcting it? For the sound issue, DVI does not carry sound. HDMI carries audio and video, so it would have to be HDMI to HDMI so no the DVI to HDMI adapter will not carry sound.

I used to use a 17" Dell lcd before I got the DVI to HDMI cable but now ive just got the TV connected to the graphics card without any other monitor or tv. Ive tried changing resolutions but no luck, i was thinking would downloading the ATI control panel or an ATI program sort it?

I think there is some sort of cable/converter that takes DVI + 3.5mm/RCA input with HDMI output in the other end. DX has that IIRC, dunno if it's really working.

Now about the icons getting all over the place, have the "auto arrange icon" and "allign icon to grid" both activated (they're on desktop right-click menu).

Alternatively, if you need specific icon arrangement to be preserved across resolution I know DisplayFusion has this kind of feature. If you don't need all bell and whistles of DF perhaps there is other small program that does exactly this job,

Google "icon lock change resolution" or something like that.
