board wont boot ram over 1333

Thread Starter
Hey everyone, I'm having issues with running any ram over 1333 right now. I have the latest f8 BIOS and I have tried corsair and patriot memory. The issue is the ram is rated 1866 cl9 but afteri change the speed in BIOS to 1866 or even 1600 I have an immideate boot over lock error and the rest of my system isn't over locked at all. I'm running a 8120 with 2 4gb 1866 rated sticks. It boots fine with either brand of memory at 1333. If I loosen the timings it will work but I'd rather leave the latency as low as possible

Check to see if you board/processor specs are capable of 1333+. Despite the RAM being rated at 1866, this type of frequency is most likely for a benching set of RAM, where mem:cpu ratios are adjusted for higher/stable OC's.

AMD systems afaik don't use XMP settings which most ram sets nowadays use (Intel does frown.gif) instead it will run the mem at 1333 at tight timings. If you want to run 1866 you will have to loosen them

http://www.overclock.net/t/1288747/gigabyte-ga-a75n-wont-run-1600mhz#post_17841580

This is for 1600 but try those settings, even though the ram is rated at 1866 it dosent mean it can run it at low lat timings. If you want low lat then you will have to lower each setting one by one until it is stable (OC method).

Edit: Well since xd_1771 is here nothing_to_do_here.jpg

I have the same board and same problem with 1600mhz ram
I looked up the ram on manufactures website and it gave me the proper settings
THink is was just a drop of 1 in the final latency.

FIrst just try setting the voltage to what it says on your ram and use the timings printed on the ram.
Mine wanted to run the volts way too low and kept reverting to 1333. Proabaly 1.6v

Check your secondary timings (particularly the tRFC) when set to 1600 or 1866.  Make sure they aren't too low (by automatic setting).

Ill double check but im pretty sure you should be able to use the stock timming's. Just more volts needed. Think mine was defaulting to 1.45 and it needs to be 1.65v, soon as I changed that it started booting like a champ. Should be a safe volt setting printed on the ram. I hate loosening timings when you paid for tight ones.
I've found alot of this with DDR3 and both intel and AMD CPUs (integrated controllers). It's hard to say if it's the RAM, controller or mobo's fault but it makes for a pain.

First thing I look at now with new systems and instability is RAM.
