Hi everyone,

So this is my first post. Right off the bat I want to let you know that my knowledge of hardware is close to zero, so that should tell you how much I know about overclocking. Frankly, I am kind of busy learning Debian Linux right now because I want to get rid of Windows and all the anti-this and anti-that that I have to install on it. Anyways, I wanted to know from you (the experts) which motherboard I should get for my computer. Of course, it should support Linux and I want it to support SATA (1 and 2) as well as IDE (if possible...sorry if I am making silly requests...my hardware knowledge is very little at the moment....but that will change when I am done studying and getting comfortable with Linux). At the minimum it should support IDE, because that's the HD that I have in there. I have a Pentium D chip, so it must support 64 bit operations and dual core chips. That's about all the requirements that I could come up with. If I am missing some, please let me know and I'll answer to the best of my abilities. Thank you so much!

This motherboard whet my whistle here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813186058

Looks really nice it's going for $144 on newegg, if that's too much here's a cheaper board

I'm pretty sure the 2nd board only requires DDR and not DDR2

Penicilyn, your avatar is dope, cracks me up! Thanks for your help. I need to look and see what kind of memory stick I have. How can I tell the difference between a DDR and DDR2? Does it say so on the stick itself? Sorry for the simple question.

BTW, the second mobo that you recommended...does it support dual core CPUs? I looked at it's product page and couldn't find anything about Pentium D or dual core support.

Hi Duke, I filled out what I knew about my system. Thanks for letting me know. I have a question, which section do I post my questions to? I looked at all the sections and their description before I posted here but none were for "General Discussion" or "Motherboard" questions. Thanks for your help on this.

I'm pretty sure it will support PD as it's DDR2.

If you want to you could go to the ASUS site and find out in the forums.

If you can manage the cash, I'd go with the foxxconn

Also, what you can do is go to www.majorgeeks.com and download a copy of Everest Home Edition

That can tell you what kind of ram you have, and well, a TON of stuff about your computer.
