955 Bottleneck: Need advice. - Page 2

Hi I just did a Heaven, my sig rig will tell you what I have but you probably should be expecting more than this as you are running CF but the 7970 is a good card.

FPS:

116.0

Scores:

2923

Min FPS:

44.2

Max FPS:

192.6

If your 955 is like my 1090t then as soon as it hits 60 degrees it BSOD's, I think the cheapest way for you to get better performance all round will be to get a corsair H60 or H80 on your 955 that way you will probably get 3.7 or 3.8 stable, and you'll get more from your cards, what's interesting though is that your Highest FPS is much higher than mine, but your lowest is much lower, I can only think the CPU is throttling from heat.

That's my thoughts anyway hope it helps.

Did you realize that your motherboard is 16 x pic-e capable only while using one card? If you go to two cards , it drops both pci-e slots to 8 x.
I'm not a guru when it comes to crossfire, the only one i have messed with was dual 4870 x2's on my 965 amd rig. Very finicky to get set up and it took the perfect driver in order to get them to work well together.
At any rate, I hope you find the solution to the problem

1366x768/1440x900 Dual screen + 4Ghz on cpu + increase HT as maximum as possible

or get a single card selling urs and ue 1080p w/ cpu at 4ghz

or change mobo if it`s using less than 8x-8x when it`s in crossfire

Another issue you mentioned earlier is you are hitting 60C at 1.45 volts on an H50. That is a little high. Are your running that in a push, pull, or push/pull setup?

My base clock is 3.2GHz.

Right now I have the multi at 17.5 (3.5GHz), NB is at 2.6GHz, I have no idea what HT is, the volts for my NB at 1.35, and those are the memory speeds and timing.

I am running push/pull also, idling in the low 40s.

Well when I was playing my CPU was not OC.

Yes, and right now they are both runnin in x8. Would that be a problem?

Ok so here are my thoughts. It has been a little while since I have played with the 955.

1. The NB is high enough at the moment so no need to mess with it.

2. The memory clock is low enough but those are 4gb sticks so you may want to loosen the timings a bit. Something like 11-11-11-24 or so. We can come back to this after we get the clock speed on the CPU up.

3. You seem to be doing multi overclocking only. Try dropping the multi down to 16.5x and raising your base clock to 215. Start there and start moving up. It will take a combo of multi and base to get that C2 up to 3.8.

4. I think you might need to reseat your cooler. 40C at idle is higher than I would like to see with a push/pull H50.

The 8x/8x will not be holding both of those cards back so no need to worry much about that. Try something like PerfMon to record CPU usage during your gaming sessions. Oh and bump your HT to something around 2400 as well.

Which should I move up? my bus speed or my multi? And also I should let you know I passed a full run of Prime95 with those settings, if that means anything.

Drop your multi for the time being and bump your bus speed. That is a good sign if you passed a full run of prime with the 3.5 with just a multi bump.

He just said to lower your multi to 16.5x, and up your FSB to 215. That'd net you 3.54Ghz and faster NB and RAM. Watch out for temps.

So which do I bump now? Keep OC with just the bus speed? Also at what temps do I start to get worried? What should I never go over?

Start bumping your bus speed sorry if that wasn't clear. Now remember your memory clock will increase with the bus speed so if you bluescreen drop your memory speed a bit and try again leaving the bus and multi where they were. If you don't bluescreen it's a memory limit if you still bluescreen you need more voltage. That will help you determine what your limits are.

Temps you should be watching for is around 55C at full load. The max voltage is probably around 1.55v but I doubt you hit that before you hit a temp wall.
