Hello,
New to the forum and to that DIY computer scene. I have been interested in building a computer for some time now and an opportunity has presented its self. I was given a computer that belonged to an old roommate and i was told it was having some issues, it was being used as an everyday check email, do homework, facebook, etc etc and one day these issues presented themselves..."was saying that i had to reboot and would turn off on its own all the time." When asked about a display her response was..."it was a black screen that said that but then one day it was off and i could not get it to turn on at all." So I took the computer and cleaned the hell out of it (crazy amounts of dust in the intake and exhaust fans, just caked). I unplugged some things (hard drives, floppy drive, optical drive) to get as much dusted off as possible. I plugged everything back in, took it home and plugged it into my tv (vizio) using the existing DB15 plug. When i turn the computer on there is no display at all. The tv displays its usual blue screen with white "no signal" letters and then shuts off. So no signal at all going to the moniter from the video card. The DB15 cable is and has been plugged into my dell vostro and I use it as my TV so i know the cable works. The computer turns on fine and the one green LED stays solid green, no blinking or flashing or color change. The specs of the new computer is as follows...
2x PNY 1GB, ddr dim, q
PNY GeForce 7300gs 256mb pci-e graphics card
OCZGXS600 power supply
2x western digital wd800jd 80GB hard drives
Asrock fsb1066 dual core cpu
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU
Where do I start in resolving this problem? My thinking is to test the individual pins in the DB15 output from the video card for continuity. I dont have any extra computers (desktops) nor any extra video cards. When i plugged everything back into the motherboard i assumed i did it right but there were a couple of plugs that were loose and i was curious about. The PCI-E1 and 2 plugs, I assume my graphics card does not require this plug because I think that plug powers the extra fans on other graphics cards. I dont seen any 6 prong male plugs on the current card. And finally the P11 plug, which i assume is useless in my case as well. Sorry for the long drawn out post but any help would be appreciated. Just wanted to be thorough.
Thank You,
Justin
