As for the DOS part, I used the backup copy of my BIOS and flashed it through DOS using
a USB flash drive with ATIFlash (This is before I knew about hot-flashing).
Currently, after messing with everything I'm running 1.23V on the core at 940Mhz and 1400Mhz
on the memory. I'd try to push it more but I doubt I'd see any preformance increase at this point
unless I were to get beyond 1000Mhz on the core, even then degradation will probably take its toll.

ah yes, well, if you didnt know about hotflashing, then dos would be the only way to reflash back to stock.

however, it wont help you change the freq limits, as its not any different than windows: they are hash encrypted to intentionally BSOD on boot if you fiddle with them.

You can however change the powerplay volatages without running afoul of the hashes wich helps with the limits in trixx/AB

but only the area on the bottom left in RBE that has the table.

i had a 6950 for a while, and my final oc was 980/1430 with 1.25v and 6970 bios.
i tried 1.3v but all i got was 1ghz so the extra voltage didn't worth it
maybe it will help you

the running theory is its not a good idea to use the 6970 bios, its better to patch the 6950 bios and muck with the voltages.

The 6970 uses different memory, so people seem to think the timings maybe different.

They arent exposed in the bios, so there is no way to tell for sure.

Yeah, he's using a modded 6950 BIOS as far as I know..

I guess it just goes to show the importance of airflow, I flipped one of my fans to blow in instead of out and my card heated up by 10C (I also think I might need to change some things.. Seems too hot even when NOT overclocking. Maybe time to replace thermal paste n' clean out the dust tongue.gif)

I've got two reference 6950s I've unlocked (via RBE, not a 6970 BIOS, but I have tried 6970s BIOSes and there were no tangible differences in OCing capability).

Both of mine clock almost identically (singly), but 950 core and 1450 memory is the highest completely stable clocks that are practical to run. There is no way I could get 1GHz without much better than stock cooling and over 1.3v on the GPU. As it is, I need 1.2v for 950 to be fully stable.

you should be using RBE - Radeon Bios Editor.
Its a windows program.

While most people won't run into issues, I'd still trust DOS and ATIFLASH over WINFLASH any day.

DOS is irrelvent on 6950/6970 as they are dual bios.

On a non-dual bios, ill give you that. DOS more stable.
