A 6870 paired with your Phenom 2 bug will play things quite nicely.

One important note: make sure you have good circulation in your case. The 6870 is a solid card for what it is, but it thows off a LOT of heat and noise from fans.

While my experience is anecdotal, I've had good results pairing AMD CPUs and GPUs, so you should be fine in the grand scheme of things.

This Sapphire has been amazing and solid to me for a LONG time.
Sticking with Radeon's even though I started an Nvidia peep. smile.gif

when i started I only had a 2mb 2d trident card or something silly,

then my Step Father got me the Diamond Monster 3D 4MB Upgrader card (which lets both cards work together)

I played Tomb Raider on that !

After that I finally went nVidia with the Riva TNT2 Ultra

and then to the AMD 9800 pro

and then to nVidia 7800GT from BFG

then to 8800GTS 640mb and now my lovely GTX 275

each card lasted me a good 3 years id have to say

I guess this makes me an nVidia man

I went from a 4MB via adapter to a GeForce 2 to an FX 5200 to a 9600GT to my current 5750 which served me well for the last 3 years as well smile.gif

Oh you know what??

There was another 2 cards

I had a MX 420 or 440 cant remember

and ati 9600 xt and the 9800 , got one of them for free but I dont know how.

Dmanit, i cant remember when I had those -.-

I must have picke dup the MX440 or whichever it was After the TnT2, just a quick upgrad,e dont think it cost very much,

Cus Im pretty sure I held on to the ATI Cards for quite sometime when HalfLife was out.

That's what i had in mind. I've never seen BF3 use more than 3 cores of my CPU. Now, i don't know if multiplayer utilizes more cores, but with singleplayer this is the case.

On my old 1100T @4.0, multiplayer BF3 would run all 6 of my cores @ 60-75%
