NZXT Switch 810 or Corsair 800D

Thread Starter
Watsup OCN,

I'm in the process of buying a new motherboard and make the progression over to water cooling. So, what case would be the best one?

Now I do live in South Africa and our availability is very limited. The Switch costs R1 599 ZAR and the 800D is R2 506 ZAR. Big price difference out here but I want the best value for money.

I was first looking at the Switch, but after going through the NZXT Switch 810 Owner's Thread, I saw a lot of them had issues with the durability and receiving it damaged. It's a great looking case and looks perfect for custom loops.

NZXT Switch 810

On the other hand, the 800D is a very solid looking case and I love how sleek it looks. It's also huge which is another great advantage.

Corsair 800D

The reason why I need one of these cases is because I'm getting the Maximus V Formula so I need the full tower.

So my question to you - which case would be the best in terms of cable management, custom water cooling loops and durability.

Thanks,
Duck

The Corsair cases felt like a battleship in comparison to the NZXT. It felt very sturdy.
I was VERY happy with the cable management of the Corsair, and loved the rubber grommets for cable passthrough. It made everything much cleaner.
Both are different designs if you are going for a water cooled setup. In that regard, I am not sure which would be better.

Problem for me. The 810 is cheap and nasty its all plastic and looks shoddy, I mean look at the roof. A solid roof with honeycomb stamped out fan grills would have been so much nicer.

The 800D looks the part, you can force a 480 in the roof with a dremmel and 480 grill. But it might spoil the looks. The lack of intakes on the 800D is concerning.

Its about time corsair / antec and those types of companies get their act together and give us the case we need.

800D without a doubt. Built like a tank (heavy like one too), lots of room to watercool. I've got a HUGE 3x120mm rad in the top and a smaller 2x120mm rad in the bottom, I could even add another 1x120mm if I needed too. I only use the rear 140mm as the only exhaust in the case, lots of positive pressure almost no dust in the case.

I can't speak for the quality of the switch 810, but I despise the way they look.

I just got the gunmetal version of the 810 and can say I really like the look, it feels sturdy too but I cannot compare it to the 800D since I never owned one. If money had not been an issue I probably would have gone for the 800D though.

Having said that:
1) the 810 natively fits a 3x140mm rad on top and a double rad on the bottom.
2) I personally dont like the honeycomb fan grills and quite like the vent design of the 810. Aditionally it is a nice feature if you need to air cool for a while and then turn to water
3) the 800D has a more classy look about it

I would suggest you decide on what your water setup will be, and if both fit your ideal loop (with or without modding depending on your preferences) then just go for which one zou personally find more sexy

All good points. Seems the replies so far swing towards the 800D. The loop I'd start with would fit in both cases though. So I need to choose one as a 'future proof' too.

How about the CM Storm Trooper? Not as big as the ones mentioned but does fit the H100 and smaller cooling loops.

Shinobi XL is another good option to look at. I prefer it to the Switch just as a matter of aesthetics. Though it's slightly more capable in terms of fitting watercooling gear in it, it's pretty similar otherwise.

Tubing looks a little short on all you fittings. Next time try and measure it so that you get it all the way down to the base of the barb, your fine but it looks sort a bodged. Maybe a 45 on the gpu to the cpu?

They were perfectly measured. It's more of an issue of getting the 7/16" tubing on the Bitspower 1/2" barbs. It was like as soon as it cooled it refused to go any further on a few of them.
