Windows 8 has plenty of improvements (literally hundreds), and calling it crap because of a new UI for the start menu, and an optional marketplace, is silly. And no, I'm not talking about RT, that's an entirely different OS, just like iOS != OS X.
Haters gonna hate. Nobody is forcing you to upgrade.

It seems like what you're actually tired of is people not agreeing with you.
You don't have to condescend those of us on the other side of the fence with comments like "haters gonna hate." It's like you're relating us to common ignorant racists and bigots. It's not like that, for me at least.

Actually I mostly agree with you guys, I think metro is terrible, and the windows marketplace seems overly restrictive. Those minor things won't make me be an active hater of the OS though.

Hmmm. I don't see the big deal. Even if Windows 8 (desktop) has an app store, I wouldn't use it. I don't really care for apps on a desktop since I don't see the use of them being nearly as relevant as they are on smartphones. Aren't downloadable programs able to do what apps do to begin with? Maybe I'm confusing something here.

And even if Windows 8 (tablet) requires an app store, I don't see how this is any different than Google or Apple. Maybe I'm losing something here.

No.
If you want to put an app on the app store it has to conform to certain standards.
Its literally that simple.
Good god why cant people stop with the "sky is falling" trash already?
Also, talking about Microsoft "DRM laden" store while thinking its "awesome" that apps will be on a DRM platform called Steam.
Where are all the sane people.

Apps on Valve seems strange to me. Although weekend deals on useful software does sound nice.

Where are all the sane people.
This whole page implies that you must support the Metro UI to get your app on the store, that requires at the very least some new code.
Steam is not a DRM platform. Valve does provide DRM for developers that want to use it, but it is in no way required in order to get your game on the store.

For the record, everyone saying that iOS and Android apps have to go through their respective stores is wrong. Anyone heard of jailbreaking? rooting? If you DON'T want to use the App Store/Play Marketplace, you don't have to.
