Suggest a alternative cooler for overclocking???

Hi, I have a Xigmatek Thors Hammer currently, its not bad but because its so huge it won't fit in my new case.

My new case has 4x140mm fans (top and side) and 120mm rear and front fan so plenty of air.

Basically, what cooler can compare to the Xigmatek Thors Hammer but is a lot smaller. My case width is 215mm so my Thors Hammer is touching the side panel.

I paid £18 ($36 ish) for the heatsink, so would like to stay in that area.

A lot of people has suggested me:

Coolermaster Hyper TX3
Arctic Freezer 13
Arctic Freezer 7

But on reviews they're not as good as I thought.

So basically looking for a cheap, smaller alternative to this massive heatsink. I had my eyes on Xigmatek Gaia for a while.

Thanks everyone smile.gif any input is appreciated.

Looking to overclock a FX-6100 to high frequencies, so it gets pretty toasty.

Leave sidepanel off for free? ph34r-smiley.gif
Idk..This cooler is supposed to be better than hyper 212:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835214023&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-CPU+Cooling-_-Enermax-_-35214023
After reading the reviews..They say it's big.. :lachen.gif: Umm..Hyper n520? They're pretty good..tx3 is terrible...
I didn't even bother returning the one I got..I mutilated it and it's around somewhere..didn't even cover the whole chip.

The Xigamatek is 160mm tall and most of the other decent coolers are in that same range. I think you are going to have trouble finding a cooler of the performance level you are expecting in your budget that is less than 160mm. What case do you have? Hard to imagine a 215mm wide case that can't fit a 160mm cooler.

Guess I only get the TX3 then tongue.gif

And that was whole point of this case, to use the side as intake and top as exhaust.

My current case is the Coolermaster iTower 930, the case I will be getting is the Casecom K5-7688. I was originally going to get the AeroCool Strike-X ONE but its only 180mm wide mellowsmiley.gif

This is the case I ordered:

http://www.ebuyer.com/251582-casecom-k5-7688-all-black-case-with-120mm-blue-led-front-fan-k5-7688

EDIT:
Sorry the casecom case is 200mm wide.
Itower 930 is 215mm wide

Why not just go closed loop and get rid of all that bulk?

Does your GPU run really hot?

If not, I'd lose the side fan, gain the ability fit a decent sized cooler and flip the top front fan to intake.

. You will get better temps with a xigmatek Thorshammer without the sidepanel fan than with the TX3 with the sidepanel fan.
. you won't get very far with the TX3 as far as oc goes.
.you could still use the lower sidepanel fan, since only the top sidepanel fan should interfere with the cpu cooler, right?

^This..Forget the sidepanel fans..They probably mess with the good airflow anyway rolleyes.gif

I just assumed side fans was really good because the cool air is more direct and free from objects. I currently have a 200mm fan (80CFM max) and changing it from exhaust to intake dropped my CPU temperature by 10 degrees. That's why I thought side intake was a good idea. Front intake does nothing for my temperatures, but again that could just be my case.

I suppose I could ditch the top side panel intake. My GPU never really gets hot, I use automatic fan control and it rarely hits 60c (thats when running BF3).

I will keep the heatsink then. Maybe a dull question, but seen as the heatsink is touching the case wouldn't heat transfer to the side panel too? I have always wondered that, transferring heat to the actual case tongue.gif

Without my side fans in the past my temperatures would get very toasty. But I suppose I would benefit with top exhausts anyway?

Thanks for the input everyone, very helpful biggrin.gif
