Isn't that what CMSS3D does? Takes a stereo source and makes it surround?

From my understanding yes. Though Z series uses SBX Surround, possibly just a renamed CMSS3D. No idea though, and I can't seem to find any reviews of these cards. frown.gif

Virtual surround is the biggest joke going, all it does is attempt to create stereo space through panning the mix and splitting the signal. You can't get a truly "wide" sound out of Stereo speakers unless they are placed accordingly, I have always felt that a true pair of decent stereo speakers running an unmolested source (CMS3D off) will sound much better. Just my 2c.

I take it you're speaking about sound quality? If so yes, I definitely agree, in games though where sound quality isn't as important as knowing where your enemies are (FPS games) I absolutely disagree.

Thank you. I have this system for a few years now. I was lucky with the speakers, was one of the first purchasers of XTZ in my country, so I got a really good deal thumb.gif Got the receiver second hand biggrin.gif

Well actually I bought it for the headphone amp and the face that you could have your speakers and headphones plugged in at the same time and just switch between them using software.

No crashes, no bsod's nothing. Everything has worked perfectly. Just removed Asus Xonar dg, uninstalled software. Plugged in the Z card, installed software. Simple as that smile.gif Games I have tried, Diablo2, Counter strike source and CS:GO, Doom 3, Crysis, Witcher 2 and Borderlands 2.

That's all I have had time to try so far. About 15-20 minutes at each, except borderlands 2, played for an hour or so. So not sure is that enough time for games to crash.

Just one more thing I have to mention, that I should have mentioned earlier, the build quality of the card is very good, a nice solid feel to it.

How much will I notice if I go from onboard to this new sound card?

yes, well you should. it's so hard with audio sometimes. I went from a Xonar DG to the Z and have been very happy with the improvement I have got.

I am asking this to the people who really understands these soundcards

What would the difference be between Creative X-FI Titanium (not the HD) and this new Z series.

Will I immideately hear better sound?

I think creative have done something right with these cards. I don't think the SBS surround is the same as the old cmss3d or the THX tru studio pro. I had both and neither sounded this good. The dolby headphone mode on the asus didn't sound this good. That's gaming I am talking about.

For music, most people turn off all these sound processors anyway.

Not trying to be smart, but depends on how good your ears are I suppose smile.gif

The new line of cards should be comparable to the Titanium HD and the Asus ST/STX sound wise.
