A sound card is meant for 2.1 Bookshelf speakers or headphones or a Logitech type setup. A 5.1 HTIAB doesn't need or require a sound card, HDMI out from your GPU will work much better.

Then like my self which owns a external dac amp, The reason I have this X-Fi in using optical is because I need the features of the X-FI .
I thought TOSLINK fiber-optic S/PDIF supports 5.1/7.1 as well as the coax cable.
And games that have built in 5.1/7.1 can only output it to analog and need a soundcard to make it digital? So it won't work via HDMI out to a receiver after all?

I thought virtual surround/CMSS3D isn't needed with a good pair of headphones that have good spatial awareness(AD700,DT-770)?

That's all I have had time to try so far. About 15-20 minutes at each, except borderlands 2, played for an hour or so. So not sure is that enough time for games to crash.
Just one more thing I have to mention, that I should have mentioned earlier, the build quality of the card is very good, a nice solid feel to it.

If its functioning that long without problems in borderlands 2 its probably solid.

I think I'll get the Zx version +rep for your time.

I bought one to replace an elite pro like one of the above posters. So far I think It sounds a little congested in comparison.

Idk how I feel atm... I'm going to need more time .Think it has something to do with the 600ohm amp.

What headphones do you have?

Thanks for the rep smile.gif

It's been rock solid for me so far. While playing borderlands I have turned on and off settings on the Z control panel also switched between headphone and speaker mode while in game and the card has done it without any problems at all.

Good selection of headphones!! And they all sound congested on the Z? That hasn't been my experience at all, I wonder could it be faulty headphone socket or something?

I am extremely happy with my Titanium HD. I use the Optical Out for my headphone system and it sounds SO good! applaud.gif

And wouldn't the optical out on your motherboard sound exactly the same?

Very interested to see how these stack against the Asus Xonar series.
