I don't think that guide works anymore. I believe bigadv used to be for 12 core and they bumped it up to 16. The benefit was that using smp 12, you could download a higher point WU that an i7 could process within the deadline, at a performance penalty. If you have 4 or 8 cores, using smp 12 bogs down your CPU and it performs less than what it would with a normal smp value.

I think what you are seeing is that since they changed bigadv to 16, your smp of 12 is not downloading the higher point WU's and you are bogging your CPU down for no reason.

Gotcha. If the bigadv/hugeadv WUs are now limited to 16+ cores, the extra annoyance of dealing with the VM on my daily-use computer isn't worth it. Looks like I will be sticking with the windows v7 client.

Real pity, given that I probably could complete these WUs given that I'm at 4.6ghz on all six cores.
