yah but i dont plan on overclocking at all. so it wont really matter to me.

plus for some reason a lot of the CPUS are at the same price range, like 2600k, 3820, 3770... i dont understand why or how they are all different.

i never said it was hard, I just meant it wasn't as simple as K series processors

and it would be hard for someone who had never been into the bios either way

The 2600k offers good performance at a good price, the 3770k is the new 2600k, it's arguably slightly faster but with higher temperatures, the 3820 is a 'locked' cpu (less overclocking capability) on a different platform, but it offers the option for more RAM and more 16x/ 8x PCI-e slots.

It's very slightly more difficult, but with the guides here on OCN it's very easy, you only need to change a couple of things to get a decent rudimentary overclock.

the 3770k and 3570k are the 3rd gen Ivy bridge processors, which replace the 2600/700k and 2500/550k, respectively. Ivy bridge is built on a 22 nanomenter process which is a die shrink from the 32nm sandy bridge cpu's as well they use a new transistor design called tri-gate transistors They run hotter when overclocked and see a small increase in processor performance (forget the percentages now) while the primary jump in performance is in the iGPU) These are all K series processors meaning they have an unlocked multiplier and all operate on LGA 1155( the socket, there are 1,155 pins that make contact with the cpu)
And they operate on
h67,(allows for iGPU output but no overclocking),
p67 , (allows overclocking but no iGPU output),
z68 (both iGPU and overcloking enabled)
(these three are the relatively older chipsets)

and
z77, which is the newest, being a step up from z68.

the 3770/2600/700 supports hyperthreading which enables two threads per core, yielding 8 cores 4 being physical and 4 being virtual, while the 3570/500/550 do not

now the 3820 is on an entirely different platform (chipset and socket)

it's LGA 2011, and the x79 chipset. these chips are significantly larger than their 1155 counterparts, and hotter too.

it supports hyperthreading but does not have an unlocked multiplier and no iGPU.
