Holy run-on sentence Batman!

A modem is not a router, they are different devices. They can be combined into one, though. The modem basically translates the connection from analog (or light in your case) to digital (1s and 0s). A router is used to connect different devices to a local network.

Unless you tell us what modem model you will be receiving, we can't tell you what to expect from it.

About the network card:
If you have the right extra port, be it PCI, PCI-E x1, or whatever, and it has drivers compatible with your operating system, then it will work.

You will need to talk to them to see what type of modem you get. It might be a modem+router combo device, but it might not. A quick Google shows a Verizon branded modem+router, but that may or may not be the device you will be receiving.

That PCI adapter looks fine and will work just fine.

Also, why not buy your board at Microcenter? They'll give you $50 off the cost of the motherboard when you buy the i5 3570k.
