[CNET] Windows 8 Review - Page 10

Got win8 on spare PC. Trying to use it, HW is kinda old: e2140 and 1gb ram. It runs smoothly for now.
Other than that it is nightmare. So i said to myself: basically it's regular start menu that is now stretched to my screen.
Tried to use IE from metro. WTH was this?! You can't even close it without alt+f4 now? Right click "outside" for address line?! ***...
I know it was horror life without the weather plugin... thank you microsoft now I am at peace...

It's my 2nd try and I still don't understand which drug I need to use to start liking or at least understanding this metro thing.

p.s. I do enjoy office 2013 tho
specifically because it works faster and, finally, after 10 years of development we get in-line reply smile.gif

So let's say i want to use windows 8 right now, can i get it somewhere that won't force another format when it hits in October? I mean i really like the way it looks and there seem to be drivers for about everything, i'd really love to move to windows 8 but i wouldn't want to format again when i buy it. Is there a way? or should i stay on win 7 for the time being, does frequent formatting damage ssd's? Thanks for any answer tongue.gif

Well, I'll obviously download it from my university later this year when they offer it to students for free. However, I likely won't install and use it for a little while until it matures a bit in terms of stability and security. I have no reason to rush into it.
