I currently have a Ion Video 2 PC to grab certain programs off the Dish 722 and dump them to my sig rig. Down side is i have to play the program and record on the PC. So with regards to the HD PVR does it also record only in real time - you know whatever is on the TV ATM? And to make sure I understand how it works - the HDPVR does the actual recording via analog and then transfers to the PC? So when the PVR is recording can i watch a different show on the TV?

Not unless they're hooked to separate tuners.

Well right now the 722 controls 2 tvs and any recordings are done on the second tuner. So then does that mean the HD PVR can only record what is on the second tuner? Or since a pc is connected to hd pvr and soething like windows media center can do recording i can record and watch on the tv?

The main difference between the HD PVR and the Ion Video 2 PC, aside from the higher quality encoding, is that you can watch what is being recorded while it's being recorded.
If you're recording HD on the HD PVR and want to watch a different program on the TV you will have to watch in SD as the secondary output on the Dish 722 only outputs SD.
