PWR_OK corsair ax-1200 help !!

Hello all biggrin.gif

Today I have recived a new rma psu, I have used my regular PSU tester it is a coolmax (I have tested many psu it work pretty well) i have found that PWR_ok is more than 500 ms 5 times of 10 cold power on. and I have found this is the normal timing for any atx-psu is 100 ms to 500 ms so I don't know if I have to return the psu or give it a chance. or this issue can harm my hardware or start any stability issue.

5/10 the good power delay is more than 500 ms wrong timing.
1/10 the good power delay is 420ms. good timing
3/10 the good power delay is 500 ms. good timing
1/10 the good power delay is 480 ms. good timing

PWR_OK Signal Timing
Parameter Description Value
T1 Power-on time < 500 ms
T2 Rise time 0.2 - 20 ms
T3 PWR_OK delay 100 - 500 ms
T4 PWR_OK rise time < 10 ms
T5
AC loss to PWR_OK hold-up
time
> 16 ms

Please need some advice before put it on my tower pc.

Why would you return the product if you say you found that it was exhibiting "normal" timings for psus of its class ...

Plug it to the PC and see if it works. If pwr_ok is bad, then it won't power on and you'll have your answer.

I've taken one of those Coolmax testers apart (actually it was under the name of its actual manufacturer, Young Year). It's garbage. The PWR_GD signal checker uses a +/-20% ceramic capacitor, which is way too innaccurate for the job it's supposed to do. If you happen to be on the outer edge of that 20% then your PWR_GD reading could be off 20-40%. I've seen one that reported every single power supply checked as failing PWR_GD. Also it's an electrocution hazard since there are exposed pins on the FDD connector which share a circuit with the PCIe and Molex and SATA connectors, and since there are no current limiting resistors it's possible to electrocute yourself or set something on fire if the FDD pins get shorted. Also it uses a really, really crappy DMM IC for voltage measurements and display, and uses 5% resistors for its voltage dividers.

In short that "PSU Tester" is a massive piece of crap and you should just throw it in the trash.

There are $5 digital multimeters that use more accurate components and circuits. They use the same crappy ICs, but at least they use 1% resistors for voltage dividers and other higher quality analog parts.

Well, I personally own that PSU model and it does/will work fine with ATX motherboards. I side with Phaedrus, your tester is a piece of crap.

You can connect it to the system to see if the PC randomly powers off?

There is no way you can measure this with a digital multimeter, you would need an oscilloscope.

It's just not an issue. Plug in the PSU. 99.999% chance it will work. If it doesn't work, then it doesn't work. End of file.
