Can you repair cracked acrylic?

Thread Starter
So, today I took out on of my graphics cards (I wasn't really utilizing it, so I decided to sell it), and I had to do a little tube re-routing.

My computer was not built by me, I bought it as a complete system here off of OCN.

Whilst re-routing my tubes, I found that the way I had my reservoir oriented was causing me the problem. All I had to do was use the other inlet - it is a tube reservoir with two inlets. I took my barb out of the top thread where it was, and then went to remove the metal "bolt" kind of thing:

I thought I had to just turn it with a penny or something. I tried to turn it (to the left ofc) and it wouldn't budge. Even with all my strength it wouldn't budge. And then I noticed cracks around the bolt-looking thing.

What can I do about these cracks? Will they leak? Do I have to replace my reservoir? It would really suck if I would, because the only other compuer I have is my laptop, and I need the horsepower of my desktop.

My second question is this: what is the proper way to remove the bolt-looking thing? Was I doing it wrong?

My final question: can my loop operate without a reservoir for the time being? Can I just put a barb on of my pump where the reservoir was feeding it?

Thanks in advance for all your help,

-Scott

Ha ha. Yes those were my pictures I took yesterday for my university access card. It so happens that I had took four of them, and that I also had four images in the folder from today.

The right picture are now up, have at em.

Use a scewdriver and make sure you are twisting the right way. When replacing the cap, make sure not to over tighten.

Those cracks probably won't leak, but may propagate over time. You could repair them, at least to a degree, with a heat gun. You'd have to be careful though, the amount temperature needed to repair small cracks and the temperature at which you'll cause worse damage are not far apart.

Looks like it may have been overtightened by the previous owner, which got it stuck and caused the fractures.

If you can't unscrew it with a penny, get a wrench. If you can't unscrew it with a wrench, it is probably glued in frown.gif

As to the little cracks, I'd get some transparent epoxy and put a thin layer over the surface of the reservoir, after removing the plug if possible. A heat gun / butane torch might work too, but it's easier to get it wrong.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I will try to get it open with a wrench. If that doesn't work I will just remove the reservoir completely and run without it for the time being.

If it doesn't work out, I'm about to put one of those reservoirs in the forsale section cheap. Only used it for a couple days.
