Vulcan's Mild Rant

So I had to rebuild my computer last week, lightning strike near the house fried a lot of stuff including my PC. So I replaced my i7 920 with an i5 3570k, everything's working great now. Still on stock air though, I can't mount my TRUE 120 into the Z77 board.

Okay, no problem, I'll just get the 1156 bolt-thru kit. I had to get the 1366 bolt-thru kit the first time around, no biggie. Except that apparently these things don't exist anymore.

Okay, still no problem...I'll just get the Venomous BTK kit, which apparently is the "new" version of Thermaltake's mounting bracket. But wait, what? $20 for a little piece of metal?!? I think I paid half that for my 1366 bolt thru! Argh, I'm being gouged. But what's my alternative, pay $60+ for a brand new cooler? I guess $20 is still cheaper, so okay.

Except this appears to be as scarce as Bigfoot too. No one seems to have them in stock. Amazon said they had two in stock, and that's all I could find. Of course, this was actually through FrozenCPU, whose system said they were out of stock. No one else I saw had them at all! So I rolled the dice, and lost...Amazon was a liar, they were out of stock. Backordered until next week they say. Well, I'll give them a week I suppose. After that I guess I have no choice but to buy a new cooler!!! mad.gif

If it comes to that, I think I might go for that Thermaltake MUX that looks a lot like the TRUE. Any better ideas? I think that monstrous Noctua is too much for me, I know it's a hella cooler but I had a hard enough time getting the TRUE into my case...that Noctua looks like the size of a small car.

Hate that when lightning strikes. Fried my old laptop and a few other electronics 3 years ago. Noctua's mounting kit makes it easy to install, even though the NH-D14 is a big heatsink.
