the only game that got me scared multiple times is the metroid on original gameboy.

I found Call of Cthulhu a bit scary at first, but its brokenness got to me pretty quickly.

it's all about personal preference. I couldn't see myself enjoying horror movies/games. they're made for our entertainment and if you don't find it entertaining at all then just ignore them. that's what I do.

I don't really get the purpose of watching/playing horror games/movies and scaring yourself. where's the fun in that? how is being scared pleasurable lol

This is got to be the best advice by far thumb.gif I just recently played F.E.A.R 1 and I'm still amazed at just how good it is especially the graphics and it came out in '05 biggrin.gif Dead Space can't hold a candle to it in terms of atmosphere. I also think its a great place to start in terms of playing scary games as it has parts that are scary but also many non scary parts. It's that difference that make the more scary parts effective. The scary parts are usually also pretty short so if you can keep playing for just a little while longer you can get back to that nice familiar HL2esque shooter gameplay.

Another vote for FEAR. I actually played at midnight with headphones on and my bedroom door closed. That small girl that appears and then just...vanishes. Still gets me sometimes lol

What about amnesia? Looks like a pretty scary game, graphics bit basic by the looks of things on YT but I think it looks good.

Yeah, I've never found the fun in games like Amnesia. You run around and you do some menial things while a guy with no jaw chases you. Sounds like fun.
I guess I just don't get horror.

Also, Amnesia doesn't do ambushes as well as DOOM, as is shown in this video of a custom level:

Play Amnesia from start to finish, in the dark, alone.

Its called implosion therapy.

If you find yourself yelling "stop going insane" at the character, like I did, it worked.
