installing a new host controller card

Thread Starter
I have a Syba 40008 raid card that I am planning on installing. I am new to expansion cards. All I want the card to do is add d
Sata ports. I plan to add a blu-ray drive and a drive that currently has data on it. Is it as simple as plugging the card in and plugging the drives in to make it work in Sata only mode? Do I need to worry about data loss on the drive?

Almost... smile.gif You will also likely need drivers to be installed... but other than that it is as simple as you say indeed. Providing that the card CAN do individual drive/regular SATA....

I figured I would need drivers as well, I just forgot to add that step. The part I'm most interested in is does the card default as basic drive Setup

you may want to keep the blu ray on the motherboard sata connections as some controller cards have issues with optical drives.

otherwise you should be ok after installing the drivers.
