[DL] Verizon Galaxy SIII Bootloader Cracked!

And the news of the day goes to…XDA developers who managed to flash an unsecure bootloader to the Verizon Galaxy S3. Developer AdamOutler posted up a file for Mac and Linux that will root your GS3 and apply the unsecure bootloader, leaving your device open for you to do as you please. I cannot even express in words how big of an achievement this is for the community of Galaxy S3 owners that were beyond upset with Verizon’s choice to lock the bootloader of this device.

Rejoice! This is great news. Took too long, but it's finally blown wide open.

Meh. You don't need an unlocked bootloader to change the rom. I've been on CM10 since 2 days after I got my S3.

Kexec is crap compared to a full blown unlocked bootloader.

It will be easier to recover from a brick, easier to flash kernels, no long boot times, no double boots with hacky hijacks, no special recoveries, no unlock symbol, more devs will be encouraged to dev, we'll get official support for CM, etc. This is HUGE. 2 terminal commands and now my phone boots lightning fast and is ready to flash CM10 or AOKP when 3g gets worked out. God I love it.

Edit: I'm really curious about who leaked the insecure aboot.img. People are saying it was probably a Samsung employee (duh). I know we'll never know but it's interesting to think about since we're pretty much talking about cooperate espionage. I wonder if some software manager that controls stuff like this will be a little red in the face when he gets to his office tomorrow and finds out the news haha.

Can someone explain to me the unlocked boot loader benefit? I thought it wasn't going to be a problem since many Verizon SGS3 owners already had custom ROMs. I see it mentioned above that it is easier to do things, but I'm more interested as to why, and what the boot loader does.

Bootloader allows you to actually install new rom's, with almost no effort, where using a kexec involves rooting the phone, installing a backup program, booting the phone into backup mode and essentially recovering an image of an os over top of your current os.

So I couldn't simply remove bloatware entirely by unlocking my boot loader... I would still have to put on a custom kernel?

I can't wait to purchase this phone, once my company is off lock down I'll go to the PX and get one. I'll have to wait to root it as I don't have a laptop and Internet access in the barracks is limited anyway.
