I've changed my stance on the GTX 670 and humbly agree cheers.gif

I had to use Afterburner to unlock my voltage - initially it was greyed out but i to simply uncheck the box

I was able to oc from 1075mhz core /1500mhz mem to 1125 core / 1575 mem by bumping the voltage a bit

Hope this helps

It is stable thus far and temperatures don't exceed 67 degree Celsius (Monitored in MSI AB). I am 100% sure this card can be pushed further. Here is another 3DMark11 run with GPU-Z for verification thumb.gif

Impressive for a $300 card eh? tongue.gif

What is the stock voltage for this card, were both afterburner and trixx able to change voltage, how far could you overclock on stock voltage, fully stable ofc.

I guess there is no bios u can load onto this gigabyte 7950 with increased voltage.

There is no doubt that the 7950 is the best price/perf card.

I'll probably get a Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 OC 950M, as I think that's probably the best one to get atm, the gigabyte 7950 while having probably a better cooler, after my experience with the 7970 I'm obviously very wary of it.

Scroll to middle of page and you'll see what this card is capable of. I posted my Heaven and 3DMark 11 scores. User Pioneerisloud offered to compare his 7970 at same clocks and the difference in my opinion is trivial. His results can be found two pages later. Stock voltage is 1.031 according to MSI AB and I didn't bother using Sapphire Trixx to do any overclocking as I prefer AB.

for 1200+ Mhz the only cooler really capable of cooling well seems to be the gigabyte windforce, sapphire vapor-x and his iceq. i think the sapphire dual x is good to hit 1200 Mhz. but beyond that its limited by the cooler.

You got an awesome card biggrin.gif

Here is GTX 670 @ 1365 Core/ 1879 @ 1.213mV

I guess If I upgrade to Ivy Bridge setup I may get about 0.5 - 1 fps

My best 3DMark score

I find it acceptable since your card beat a good number of HD7970s out there tongue.gif .

Card is marginally faster now that I've bumped the memory up an extra 100MHz

P10130

I'm just happy I broke 10,000 in 3DMark 11 biggrin.gif

Thats 0.7 shy of Pioneerisloud's HD7970 (1285/1650).
BTW what was your scores with your old HD7970s?
I always thought of picking a reference HD7970 (sapphire) but I've heared it suck at overclocking and it might be a side-grade (considering I got a dud).
But certainly the HD7950 is better value considering it only 2% slower than HD7970 cfc. But reference cards won't reach that high clocks like yours.

I've had 2 7970s prior to the Gigabyte 7950. They were the Sapphire 7970 OC and the Gigabyte 7970. I don't remember my Heaven scores for the two but from what I can remember of 3DMark, the Sapphire in default form scored ~8200 in 3DMark 11. My processor at the time was completely stock not like what it is now at 4.6GHz. The Gigabyte 7970 which I just shipped out yesterday scored ~8700 with CPU at 4.6GHz. Default Gigabyte 7950 scored ~7800.

Have you tried pushing 1.3 GHz on that card? wondering how much you will get.
I've seen someone with 1285 MHz before but I forgot his name (member on OCN here) he is running on water and his voltage was around 1.4.
Maybe this is the first card on the world to do 1285 MHz on air.
