Can't increase voltage - Gigabyte 7970 WindForce 3X GV-R797OC-3GD - Page 8

BIOS switch is set to the position towards the card's output connectors/away from the PCI-E slot. I went by memory, I hope I haven't embarrassed myself by trying to flash the wrong BIOS. The results of atiflash were similar to the ones you posted, that's what it looked like. I wasn't using Atiman, to remove the drivers I uninstall from Control Panel, then reboot into Safe Mode and run Driver Sweeper, then reboot to install the new version.

Something else odd happened. Today I decided to give the GHz BIOS, the same one I flashed last night and was giving "no driver" errors, another try. This time it caused a BSOD. Very weird, absolutely nothing has changed, it's the same driver install and the same BIOS, but this time it's a BSOD instead of an error after a successful boot.

Tried flashing again, I installed Gigabyte's F41 Beta BIOS first, then the GHz Edition and I'm getting a BSOD like before. This is what the flash looked like for the GHz Edition (sorry for the shaky picture):

I can't think of what else to try, maybe the other switch position. I'm don't think either is write-protected though, simply because I flashed both of them before. Maybe for some reason you have to be on a specific BIOS before you can flash the GHz Edition properly? What BIOS were you using before?

I also bought a gigabyte 7970 overclock thinking that i could get high clocks. I was wrong as it won't even be stable at 1025. What a waste of money.

So, at the end, did someone manage to unlock the voltage or there's no pissibilities to overvolt?
twisted1 got his to 1.256V using the GHz Edition BIOS, I'm trying to do the same but it's not working (yet).

That's at 1285/1750 biggrin.gif. Card beats out a ton of 7970s. Per clock they are 3-5% apart but the problem is not a whole lot of 7970s can reach 1285/1750. Don't feel bad though, this 7950 is special thumb.gif

I might go and sell my current 7970 because it can't even get a stable extra 25mhz and go buy myself a MSI 7970 Lighting.

If you want the best get the ASUS HD 7970 MATRIX Platinum clocked at 1.1 Ghz.. this card easily hits 1200 Mhz . Few users like bruennis have been lucky to hit 1.3+ Ghz. very high quality custom PCB. good cooler. thumb.gif

The problem is that the Asus matrix is $80 on top of the Lighting and that's already $140 on top of the Gigabyte Overclock so i can't really justify the extra cost of the matrix over lighting.

Has anybody else tried and had any success with the GHz BIOS? I have no idea if I'm doing something wrong or if it just doesn't work on all cards.
