Upgraded to i7-3770k with Sabertooth P67 Motherboard, PCI-E 3.0?

So first thing I noticed once I pop'd in the i7-3770k is that chipset drivers and video card drivers had to be re-installed once it booted into windows for the first time with the IB chip. I didn't pay attention to the fact that it was re-installing pci-e device drivers to enable pci-e 3.0. I ran 3Dmark 11 and noticed the fps increase in just the graphics test. I was curious as to why a P67 chip would enable PCI-E 3.0 without it even being a next gen chipset. So to cut any curiosity I ran GPU-Z and sure enough it says PCI-E 3.0?? Could this be right?

i think not, since afaik P67 motherboards doesnt even support the bandwidth, even though the cpu does. its like pairing a 300mbps modem with a 54mbps wireless adapter, you wont be able to reach the speed modem can provide. it is weird tho. i was thinking about the cpu difference, but coming from a 2600K to a 3770K should give you 1-2fps at max, no big difference.also, im not sure, but it says that one card is at PCIE x16 while the other is at 1st gen PCIE at x8, so it might be because of the bigger bandwidth the 3770K can provide. to answer your question, i think that it shouldn't be that way, but dont fix it if it aint broken, even though this is OCN and we fix things until it breaks down.

Thank you very much for the information, I changed the processor with the help of extra budget due to the processors defective memory controller. Some memory slots on the board weren't working correctly, I tried a new motherboard (sent it to Asus and received a new one back, didn't solve my issue). Sent memory back to Corsair (received new pair of vengeance 16gb, that didn't fix the issue). So it came down to the it being the processor, I called Intel and they gave me a time frame of how long I would be without a new cpu, and i just went out and bought an i7-3770k. Not a huge upgrade at all, but much more future proof so that when I change out my motherboard (Maybe next month) just to gain the actual pci-e 3.0 and Legacy USB 3.0 which is also not something to die for in performance from pci-e 2.0, but once again. Future proof and taking advantage of the sli 670's bandwidth. Once again thanks for info.

Dead thread but I have to say that my friend 'barkinos98' is incorrect here.
Just installed my 3770K on my P67 and yes, I'm running PCI 3.0.

Cheers.

Hi.
Not dead smile.gif
You said 'Just installed my 3770K on my P67 and yes, I'm running PCI 3.0."
That's for a Sabertooth P67 Motherboard, really ?
Is it necessary to take the latest version of the BIOS (3602) ??
or only the 2302 recommended on the page https://www.asus.com/en/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_P67/HelpDesk_CPU/ ???
Best regards,
Guillaume

I do not believe it is necessary to run the latest BIOS but I would.
As long as the BIOS supports the processor in question then PCI 3.0 should be available.
It's more on the CPU then the mobo to run PCI 3.0.
My motherboard was a P67 WS Revolution that I believe uses the same BIOS as the Sabertooth.

Cheers.. smile.gif
