HD 7950 @ Stock is as fast as GTX660 Ti. OC them and HD 7950 will smoke it. Even if you get the GTX660 Ti @ 1.3Ghz Thats still only 30% OC and will be limited bandwidth wise. OC HD 7950 @ 1.2Ghz and that is 50% OC backed up with huge memory bandwidth. The point here is that HD 7950 might get beat by GTX670 and play with GTX660 Ti but once OCed its plays with big boys. If you argue stock performance then might as well not be here is OCN. I never but a CPU or GPU without OC potential in mind.

Why is EVGA selling reference 660 ti's for 299 and everyone else is selling non reference for the same price? Way to step it up EVGA rolleyes.gif

The reviews can keep comparing a HD 7950 at 800 Mhz with stock GTX 660 Ti and factory overclocked GTX 660 Ti. But who is going to specifically buy a 800 Mhz HD 7950 when you can pick up a HD 7950 at 900 - 950 Mhz for USD 350.

I want the EVGA 660 Ti to look similar to this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130768

But guys honestly, from all the reviews I'm seeing, the GTX 660 Ti at $300 is killing the 7950 at $350.

AMD's always had a higher number of shaders anyway. Completely different architectures. Your points are 100% irrelevant. And the 7950 compares well with the 670 when both are overclocked as well; the 670 has 32 ROPs and a 256-bit bus. GK104 scales horribly.

They are 100% relevant. AMD had more shaders before because they don't have hotclocks like Nvidias generations from 8000 series to GTX 500 series . But this time both don't have it so they are comparable to each other even more than before .
In my opinion a card at half the specs that can perform about the same as a stuffed card like the 7950 is awesome. It is obvious what scales horribly.

From a fair stand point I still find the HD7950 a better buy since the prices are so close and it is a better card overall, but in this discussion we are not talking about pricing.

I like that it's performing great in Surround on BF3 in SLI. I'm looking forward to buying a couple of these in a little while.

I honestly do not care AT ALL that the 660 Ti has fewer resources than the 7950. That doesn't matter to the end user at all. You're grasping at straws.

Comparing the 660 Ti at 1100MHz to the 7950 at 800MHz doesn't make it fair because the 660 Ti has less resources. You can't add more resources to the 660 TI, but you can heavily increase the clock speed of the 7950 -- moreso than the 660 Ti.

All you're saying is that the 660 Ti is an engineering feat of sorts. I, as an end user, could not care less when making a purchase decision.

Say you had a choice between two CPUs. One runs at 7GHz. The other runs at 4GHz. The 7GHz one performs 10% better than the 4GHz one. Do you choose the 4GHz one because it has higher IPC???

And absence of hotclocks doesn't change the fact that the architectures are still completely different.

People will still buy 660's because nvidia have a better marketing team or w/e you call it and always have had it.

New people coming in and unexperienced users will go for nvidia, especially this mid ranger that performs rather well imo.
They will see the branding and hear of all the "driver troubles" and go with this more entry level card because nvidia has a better "rep" and more well known.

yeah. get a factory overclocked HD 7950 and push it further to 1.1+ Ghz with a bit of voltage tweaking. You easily end up at HD 7970 Ghz performance. Sometimes its so silly how people cannot understand the basic facts. clock for clock HD 7950 is 3 -5% slower than HD 7970 as is the GTX 670 wrt GTX 680. only the most naive of people will believe anything else.
