Personal experience I know, but I have only ever had one problem with AMD drivers - the GPU would shut down when the screen went off even when it was supposed to be crunching. nVidia driver actually had the exact same problem...

True I have never used multiple cards, but I often think the "AMD drivers suck" line is outdated / overblown for single cards.

As for folding, the recent gen isn't great compared to 5xx. nVidia cut back on the compute performance to push gaming performance, which is understandable as they are primarily selling a gaming card. On non-nVidia proprietary tasks my 7950 kicks a 680 out of the park on compute.

PhysX I will give you, I would actually quite like to play with that. Maybe I will look into a cheap nVidia card to run alongside my 7950 as a PhysX card, not sure it is worth the hassle though.

I'd be all over a 3GB 670 if it was $20 or so more than the 2GB versions
I'm interested in seeing what, if any, performance differences the 3GB 660 Tis have

yes, it would be interesting to see, judging by the explanation here of how it works http://www.anandtech.com/show/6159/the-geforce-gtx-660-ti-review/2 (with one of the 64bit controllers with twice the memory of the others) my guess would be that the 3GB version would be a little bit faster in high memory usage situations (1.5+GB), but apart from that no.

That review, like a few others, paints the 660 Ti in an entirely different light... performs roughly on par with the 7870.

I wonder if certain settings turn the tables more in nvidia's favor or if it's the newer Catalyst drivers...

Interesting. Seems that on average the 7870 delivers 94% of the 660 Ti's performance.

I have liked every Hardware.fr review I have read so far, and this one is no exception.

This seems to bear out what has been said so far - at 1080 no / low AA the 660Ti is slightly ahead of the vanilla 7950, slightly behind the 7950 Boost (850-925MHz).

Start to up the res or throw in more AA and the 660Ti starts to fall behind.

in the marker for a 200-250 card so been researching and waiting for a little while. Was leaning towards an nvidia card but open to any that makes sense. I've had several concerns and annoyances from these companies:

1) Nvidia has been terribly late so I waited for nothing so far.
2) They stilll do not have anything in the 200-250 range and 7850 should be cheaper in my opinion.
3) Both companies have terrible prices this generation.
4) Both companies are using cheap tricks like:

A) Boost speed that goes far higher than advertised and never really come down, just to claim crowns (hard for consumers to read benchmarks and see the true value of the card)
B) bad compute performance just to get ahead (less value for consumers at higher price)
C) Coming up with a bunch of revised GHZ versions and bios (bad for those who already bough vanilla ones)
D) Keeping the prices of last generation cards very high
E) And other little things

It is obvious to me that we are getting screwed in more than one way yet I see no outrage. All I see is name calling, hate, delusion, and lack of objectivity. Why all the obsession/love for a piece of hardware or a corporation? and only hate towards actual people? I picture these executives laughing their asses to the bank. I just don't get it.

Yeah but how many of those reviews are using the 12.6 drivers? Would be nice to see a nice review of both card running with high OC and newest drivers.
