I was wondering whats the best card for 1080p Gaming which is relatively future proof?

No such thing. Future proof doesn't happen that much any more (unless you quad sli/qf) and there is no 'best' because all need a price bracket or some context.

So maybe if you add some more details then we can give an actual answer.

I haven't really got a budget but I am limited to 1 GPU slot? I don't mind any brand

The absolute best cards you can buy on the market today are 7970 ghz edition, 680 4gb model, or GTX 690. The first 2 are single GPUs, while the 3rd is a dual gpu. There are variations, but those are the top 3, ranging from 500-1100, I believe.

yes and no High amounts of addins to games like skyrim can shoot VRAM usage way up. But the 690 is 2 GB per core they just label it as 4Gigs.

If you are limited to 1 slot the best by far is the 690 until the 7990 comes out (if it ever does....) then it may change
