Anyway - I agree above, ROMs. Stuff waiting. Flash it or trash it.
If you read the OP is a outdated post. I included a time frame for people who were on Galaxy S3 in the U.S. it does make sense.

Is it acceptable for Samsung to release Jelly Bean internationally and they can't supply a U.S. update at the same time? Pretty sad.

Not everyone is a tech geek and wants to flash custom ROMs; especially not the "everyday people." People in this particular forum are so selfish and talks about their perspective but never puts themselves in another person's shoes. The everyday person DOES NOT WANT TO FLASH OR ALTER THEIR PHONE as they do not feel comfortable enough to do so. They use their phone as a phone.

It's hard to find humor in text, if it was in voice then it would be easier to tell if it was sarcasm or not.

But after re-reading it, yes you are right.. you are saying that the guy that subscribed to the thread didn't really add anything to the thread either.

Totally agree. I'm also not interested in flashing a rom so I am waiting for the official one to get to Portugal. And I do consider myself a tech geek.

BTW I instantly regretted buying it and am glad I got a refund, the SIII is primarily dual core except the international version which is actually quad core.

Oh god... not this conversation again.

Dual-core vs Quad-core, it means absolutely nothing when it comes to daily usage of the phone. There is absolutely no lag, especially if you're running Android 4.1.X (Jelly Bean) it runs smooth as butter.

Well, yeah, you are totally correct. That wasn't my concern though.

If I'm buying a 2 year contract on something like an android I want it to be 2 year worthy.

Quad core may be legit; its actually a 55% ish performance gain by the bench. about 12-15fps in 3d .

Benchmarks mean nothing though. What do you plan on doing with your device?

I'll be honest with you, most phones don't even last within the two-year time period. Why?
- Depending on what manufacturer you choose to go with. You are not always promised the latest updates. Even if you are, you may get it late compared to other users because it requires carrier approval of the manufacturer's update before actually coming out. Someone here will say "oh just flash a custom ROM" but using a custom ROM ported from AOSP does not always ensure proper stability because you are using ported kernels/drivers/binaries from a previous Android version so some ROMs may come out with broken WiFi/BlueTooth/GPS/etc on day one, eventually it'll be fixed.

Really, nothing you can do on a quad-core, that a dual-core can't. I'm still using my Galaxy Nexus (ill admit I don't play 3D games much on my phone, i played around with GTA and Max Payne for a bit without any lag) and I'm more than satisfied with my device. With Jelly Bean, it really ensures that your device is smooth and has no stutters or lag.

I would personally say get either: LG Nexus 4 (unless other manufacturers are making their own Nexus devices, no proper rumors or speculations on what other companies are coming out with), Samsung Galaxy Note II (be wary about future udpatesalthough it does come with JB out of the bat, it may unattract you because the screen is so big), HTC One X+ (same thing... updates is the huge thing here).

LG Nexus 4 definitely ensures you proper updates but it may disattract you with the lack of a microSD / possible no battery expansion (refer to Oct 29 for more details -- will most likely have to buy unlocked at a either ~$300 - $450 price in my speculation)

LG Optimus G is a quad-core but launches with Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0.4, wait what?! why is LG releasing a phone with ICS rather than JB when JB has been out since Summer?

Galaxy Nexus isn't bad of a choice at all either. Some disattracts are probably: camera, low speaker than other phones (use a app / custom ROM to fix). Galaxy Nexus has been the best phone experience for me coming from a: Nexus S, Samsung Vibrant (Galaxy S1), HTC Dream (G1)

I personally DISLIKE non-Nexus devices but that is just me. If you don't mind altering your phone here and there, updates may not be big as a problem but for me, I've been rooting my devices since T-Mobile G1 (first Android device) and I still care about OTAs because I want the latest drivers/binaries possible. Not to mention, new radios!? smile.gif

You overclocked a phone? There's no extra cooling you can get in such a small device, seems like a pretty bad idea for both heat and battery life.
