DICE following the release of Battlefield 2142. (Battlefield 1942 and 2 were both released prior to DICE becoming EA DICE). 2142 was also the last PC-oriented / non-consolized / simplified Battlefield game. Battlefield Bad Company was the next release and since then they have continued to (IMO) degrade the series. Now Battlefield 4 is coming out on the same engine in the same setting less than two years after Battlefield 3.
And what would happen if EA was bought out or closed down? Enlighten us please.
Blame the fact that consoles are the hot spot to make money, not the publisher. They are doing what they can to make money. If you were the head of a company that could double or even triple profits by making console-oriented games, wouldn't you?
If EA went down (even though that's not what this article is talking about), a lot of studios would fall with them. We wouldn't have any more Battlefield, Crysis, Need for Speed, Mass Effect, Star Wars, Burnout, Sims, many many sports games, and more. Those studios would either fall or be bought out by other, just-as-profit-hungry companies. There would also be even less competition, so Activision would have even more control of the market while more and more studios try to copy them as it's the only successful business model. There would be less jobs in the video game industry, so a lot of people are out of work and a lot of ideas don't have the support to be launched.
If EA went down, it would leave a profound mark on the gaming industry.
