Making file server and dealing with connection drops with DD-WRT

Thread Starter
Alright, so I've been out of the computing world for about 4 years and I'm basically half braindead.

- My internet connection drops a few times daily and I don't know why. My ISP refuses to acknowledge any problem on their end. I pay additional for a higher bandwidth plan.
- Also, I want to make my own file server. I'm a photographer and I deal with a long series of 30MB images for which I have to send to people, so the traditional method of using a file upload site doesn't work.

The stock firmware on my router provides this functionality if I plug in a storage device into the USB slot in the router.

My router is the ASUS RT-N16. I have DD-WRT on it, albeit I'm guessing an old version since it's been 4 years now.
So is it possible to deal with the above using this, and if so, how do I do so?

I tried Googling but I can't seem to get a straight answer.

Thank you!

1) Might be worth bargaining with your ISP for a new modem if you are renting one
2) The USB functionality on these devices is notoriously slow

There's a new DD-WRT build as of about april for the RT-N16 (I'm using one now)
