Lol. I hope you can do it because it just seems silly to by such a gimped card. And on a 7950 with voltage control you are almost certainly guaranteed high clocks, with the 660ti you are not it is a huge lottery, which I really dont like about the 6XX cards.

What if I spent some more money and picked up this Gigabyte 670 for $369? I could actually walk to the store and get it which would save about $12 shipping and am I right in thinking that a 670 would handily beat BOTH the 660 and 7950?

If its a good clocking card, they will have a hard time touching it at all.

Sapphire HD 7950 950 Mhz edition - $360
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102991

comes with a HD 7970 PCB. fastest HD 7950 out of the box. With voltage overclocking this card can compete with a overclocked GTX 670. they will trade blows depending on the game.

If you are willing to spend around 400 bucks the Gigabyte HD 7970 (1 Ghz) can be had for 405 after mail in rebate

I was looking at that Sapphire as it's got an extra 1GB of Vram and the cooler looks amazing., but, what about the upcoming boost edition of the 7950? Would it be worth waiting for or does the Sapphire factory OC make up for it?

The Sapphire HD 7950 950 Mhz card is already clocked more than the boost speeds of 925 Mhz. So its going to be faster.

*derp* obviously you're right. So with shipping it's basically the same price as the 670 and it doesn't have free Borderlands 2. Thanks for the help. Based on Anandtech comparative benchmraks I think I'm going to get the 670 as looks like it's a bit faster overall. Thanks again for the suggestion though.

The anandtech review used the HD 7950 BIOS flashed to an existing HD 7950 card. because of the very high boost voltage the card is throttled due to powertune limits being at 0% and the card performs like HD 7950 at 850 Mhz and not 925 Mhz as expected. you can see the HD 7950 OC launch review.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/5476/amd-radeon-7950-review/18

Metro 2033 1920 x 1200 Very high AAA

HD 7950 (1050) - 63
HD 7970 (925) - 60.5
HD 7950 (900) - 57.1

HD 7950 (950 Mhz) will be 3 - 5 % slower than HD 7970 (925 Mhz) . HD 7950 at 1100 - 1150 Mhz with voltage tweaking performs like HD 7970 Ghz (1050 Mhz). take your pick.

Yes but you choose metro, of course AMD wins come now tongue.gif . A good clocking 670(1280+) Can not really be touched by a a 7950. Both are great cards but a good 670 is just faster when both are overclocked to the max 24/7 clocks on air.

add a few more games in that list crysis warhead, witcher 2, anno 2070, alan wake, dues ex, dirt showdown. even if you compare a HD 7950 (1150 Mhz) to a GTX 670 (1250) these games are faster on HD 7950.
