Question: how likely is it that boards or chips will die? I keep hearing about the risk, and that there will be casulties, so can this be quantified better? Like, 10% or 20% or 50% (LOL) MBs/CPUs be damaged/destroyed? I am thinking about doing this in the future and was wanting to get some idea of the costs (and me as a LN2 noob will likely be much higher rate of failure I'm sure!)

Thanks for the answer for above question.....

Another question: do you first boot at room temp and then add LN2 to cool it, or do you start cold?

not likely if you know what youre doing, in my opinion. You need to know the limits of the hardware. as long as you can keep the hardware sufficiently cool, the risk is minimal imo.
however, there is risk int erms of other hazards like condensation. but again, this comes down to doing it right and know what youre doing. If you do everything the way it should be and take the necessary precautions, i think the risk is roughly the same as someone on water setup who is pushing his/her chip up to 90c for 12 hours of P95 lol

Its always good to start with a fresh OS. Many of my benching session begin by wiping a drive and doing a fresh install with fresh drivers for whatever hardware ive chosen that day

everyone does it differently. lets just say that by the time you save your bios setting of 1.80v and 6300mhz, youd better have it well into the subzeros. I usually boot up room temp at normal settings, go into bios, make all my adjustments, raise vcore and other voltages, as well as core clocks and mem clocks... by the time im done and need to boot into windows i usually try to make sure im at ~ -100c. However, some chips have something called CBB (cold boot bug) at a certain temperature (say -120c) that will not POST if they are colder than that. So if your chip has CBB at -120, you need to make sure youre at -120c or above when you boot otherwise it wont work thumb.gif

Mostly the chips aren't normally killed by LN2, sometimes if you apply a ridiculous amount of Vcore they will give up, but mostly it is motherboards and then your biggest culprit is condensation and if you haven't insulated your motherboard against water well enough.

EDIT: Apparently it took me a long time to write that...... ninja'd

1/3 way down the page..

Ill look up and find out what I can to help as long as I am here.

M.I.T --> Advanced Frequency Settings --> Advanced CPU Core Features -->CPU Core enabled SHOULD logically be the setting

Question (and a bump wink.gif )

Is there actually any point in cooling the chipset with LN2/DICE with current hw?
