It's good to see Gearbox showing us PC gamers some love with little touches like this. I hope more dev's do these kinds of things in the future.

It is nonsense. The real problem with Physx is that it is limited to Geforce cards. So we get stupid stuff like more dirt being flung up by your bullets.

Developers are not going to pour a lot of time or effort into something that only half their market will see. If we had an open physics simulation API then developers could begin to do some truly interesting things with physics simulation.

In any case this is another example of PhysX being used for fluff. Some people may get off on this type of stuff but I find it to be a marketing gimmick.

It was the same way in the Batman games too. I'm wondering if the cloth has to be specially tagged or created to use Physx.

Well all the particles and gel-like-water and stuff like that are supposed to be missing, that's the kind of stuff PhysX deals with but you guys are right about the cloth, it shouldn't be missing entirely.

But, and this is the big thing, I'm pretty sure the console version (or the base, normal version) of the game doesn't have the cloth either. It's almost 100% sure that it's NVs money that's paying for the PhysX being included and since it's included they want something to use it on. So it's more than likely that the cloth and maybe some other things like that that GB wouldn't otherwise have included in the game have been added because NV paid them to do it. In which case it's understandable from a business standpoint that they're not included if PhysX isn't enabled. Not saying that I like it or that I agree with it but it's just plain business, NV paid for the cloth, only NV cards get it.

lol i wonder if this little card would be enugh to run physx if the driver hacks still work. And i think most of the complaints are cause of the video to me it just seems setup to look better for physx iv ownd amd and ati and even had a nv card for physx befor and never did they have stuff totaly missing.

This could have been done with Havok, and worked for all customers. I believe the only reason companies choose PhysX to use is because it may have a cheaper license.

Basically Nvidia sends in engineers and does this part for you. So it is almost like a free feature, sometimes co-marketing dollars are involved as well, and seeing as how the game is coming bundled in some Nvidia cards that is clearly what happened.

I'm not saying this is bad or evil but I am still waiting for the day we see a good, open physics simulation API. Because the day after that we'll see some truly interesting uses of said technology, instead of more dirt particles or flags without per-rendered waving, both of which I find pretty boring.

EDIT: To the people saying they won't buy it for this reason alone, please reconsider. They are doing a lot of PC friendly stuff with this title, like FOV, you can disable mouse smoothing, you can remap everything, the UI is meant to work well with mouse and keyboard, they at least are claiming to be catering to the PC gamer. So don't just write off the game.
