Anyway, glad I saw this thread. $1 games this week is awesome. I paid 3.74 for From Dust during the Steam summer sale if I remember right, I could have gotten all four games Ubi is offering this week for about the same price. I'll probably still end up getting 2, if not the other 3 that they're offering for about the price of a value meal at a fast food restaurant.

Competition is indeed awesome. I'm not sure why so many people want digital distribution in PC gaming closed down and limited to a single source, when we could have multiple sources that sell at incredible prices to make themselves appealing.

Oh god. Not another one. Devs are against fragmentation but are causing fragmentation among themselves. What.

I guarantee Ubisoft's current sales are designed to lure people into installing their client and solidify their foundation. I doubt very seriously you will see $1 game sales in the future.

The reason people don't want competition with Steam, is because they don't want n number of different clients running concurrently on their computers. I'd prefer to only have to access one client to run my games, in one place. It's not like Steam doesn't have great prices. Saving $2 on a game isn't worth the added overhead of another client.

I disagree personally. The PC isn't a closed platform, and I don't see why a developer who wishes to distribute games using a service in which they actually reap nearly all of the rewards (not counting paypal fees and such) shouldn't be able to. Also, from a consumer perspective, companies who wish to compete and offer incentives to use their service benefits me when amazing deals pop up.

Great. Even more market fragmentation with these stupid bloaty spyware walled garden clients publishers insist in forcing down our throats. I hate steam. I hate origin. And I now hate uplay.

I hate Hate HATE having to instal and have running in the background these douchebag publishers horrible DRM programs.

If we have to have these stupid programs then games should be transferable between them. I OWN torchlight. Steam has no right to tell me I can't transfer it to origin or uplay. If I buy a future ubisoft game I OWN it. It is mine. I should be able to move it from uplay to steam, or off of them and run it without any crapware running at all.

We no longer have rights as consumers do we. Makes me wonder why I still bother paying for games when I could just pirate them all and not have to deal with all the publisher crap.

I really don't mind if they stop having great deals, as I'm not obligated to keep shopping there. The people who are lured in by great deals can be just as easily chased away if others are doing it better.

Point taken about only having one client. If the convenience of having one client is worth not always getting the best deal to you, I can understand that.

Ubisoft's customer service is terrible. I had issues playing a game because the Uplay loader would not boot properly on one of my PCs. I contacted customer service and asked why (as i should be able to play the games i bought - actually i bought 2 copies so i could play MP with my wife) The response I got was: Its your router, or your AV or your modem.
My response was: Its not my router or my modem as I have 2 computers that use the same router, same windows version (diff OEM license), same AV, same modem, but the game doesn't work on one of my computers.

The response I got?

Its your router, your AV or your modem.

endlessly...

Picked up Hawx 2, but I already have From Dust. Not interested in the other two, but for $1.... I dunno, I can think of a lot worse things to do with a dollar.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was getting at.

And I don't think Steam is to blame, I think EA are more to blame by starting the trend of publishers hosting their own content on their own stores. It remains to be seen as to whether or not Ubisoft will overprice the crap out of their products, though.

Opening Steam to play games is bad enough, but I have so many titles it's sort of irrelevant. But now having three clients to play games? Not something I'm looking forward to.
