You can't really go by brand. All motherboard manufacturers make motherboards that have enthusiast-friendly settings (i.e. overclocking) and basic boards that are only meant to run processors at stock settings. The Asrock board that was mentioned is a very good motherboard, but there are other Asrock boards you wouldn't want to buy. The same is true of ASUS, Gigabyte, Biostar, MSI, or anyone else. OCN keeps a database on what boards to buy for overclocking here: http://www.overclock.net/t/946407/amd-motherboard-vrm-information-list/0_100

as i live in australia, luckily i found this in stock at my local pc shop http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/990fxa-gigabyte-990fxa-mainboard-p-52261.html?sort=2a
you think that is a good price? also there is the UD5 version of that board for $40 more, worth it or not? i dont have any old pci components or anything and im not running crossfire. i just need a board that will overclock nicely smile.gif sorry im a noob thumb.gif

You don't need the UD5 unless you plan on running an army of video cards in SLI or Crossfire; the only difference is that it has one extra PCIe x16 and one extra x1 slot.

The board will let you overclock any AMD processor however far it is capable of going. The price is a little higher than what those go for in the US (AUD $151 is about USA $157; that board sells for about $140 here), but I think the price of all computer components down there is a little higher than our Newegg prices. Based on what I know, it's worth getting.

nope. it would help to cool the mosfets with a dedicated fan (80mm or 120mm). that's a 95w tdp chip, right? if so, it is well within the specs for the mobo.

AsRock untill the last few years WAS ASUS then they branched off to their own company. The UD series by gigabyte are known for voltage droop.
