Deciding on picking up a new monitor. Im huge gamer but my job is also in video and design. I ordered an IPS on a whim but it got back ordered so I started doubting myself lol.

So do I get a 120Hz monitor in 1920x1080 also I guess it has 3D

or

a 2560x1440 monitor at 60Hz

both 27"

these are the two I would be interested in so far.

120Hz

2560x1440

So help me decide! Pros..cons. Price difference and so on.

I think thats really all that matters.

I pretty much play everything from FPS to strat games.

I work with both video editing so I would say mostly 1920 and under but also graphic design so sky is the limit when it comes to quality there.

Crap, my phone chose 120Hz even though I meant to pick the 2560x1440. I used to have an aw2310 and also a 27" 1080p monitor. I now have a 2560x1440 ips display and never looked back.

2560 x 1440 for me, and if you can get a korean one to overclock to at least 100hz = win /win thumb.gif
post #6 of 97
well 120HZ will give you a slight competitive edge in FPS games, provided your reflexes are quick enough tongue.gif, but considering all the rest, ill say the IPS.

For competitive gaming 120hz is the way to go. Those IPS 1440p screens have to much blur, I like a crisp image when panning my head in a game. 120hz TN panels are closer to CRTs then anything else right now. Or wait for the future and get a OLED and have zero ghosting and a high refresh rate.

Personally I don't buy into 120Hz...far from believing its useless, nothing like that, but plz, its another 1080p screen, far too expensive for what it is.
1440p is another class in itself. Not that it is not expensive, but plz, 3.7MP vs. 2MP screens...

120hz hands down..bf3 experience is insane(people always say you cant see past 60, i turned vsync on and went 60hz the other day, gameplay felt laggy..)

yeah, but thats one game, pretty much everything besides FPS games dont benefit. the IPS will benefit him all around, and 120HZ wont help him at all for work, which im assuming is the priority here.
