Computer basically on fire?

Thread Starter
My dell inspiron laptop runs anywhere from 120°F to 190°F depending on what I'm doing.
I have it on a desk with an external fan under it. But that doesn't do much help either. Is there anything I can do to cool it down?
It's not overclocked that's for sure. Any recommendations on what to do?

Thanks

I've cleaned it, there's no dust I can see with a naked eye.

Yeah that's too hot for a running laptop... Upper 80's is up there, and my GTX 580's don't even go that high air cooled...
What did you use to measure the temps? is this the CPU?

Might need to take it apart and take a deeper look into the fan and heatsinks even though you might not be able to physically see it from the outside...

What's the ambient temps? That's the big question. My laptop used to go to around 90 deg CELSIUS and I live near the equator where temps go at around 31-33 degs.

Use compressed air to blow out the fans (and other internals), this helps on my Toshiba which reach similar temps.

Laptops just do this, especially dell's. My Vostro 3300 saw highs of 134*C on the GPU - yes, centigrade - before it melted itself and I had to call out a technician. Luckily it was under warranty. I got a whole new laptop, apart from the case, for free!

My advice for your Inspiron would be to under clock, clean out any dust, change the thermal paste and then sell it, if at all possible. Get yourself a tablet and a desktop. wink.gif

have you taken your laptop apart and replaced the thermal paste on your gpu and cpu? also did you take it apart and blow out the dust? not sure if you just blew it from the outside or not

Some laptops are just like that though... For example, my Turion 64 X2 MSI laptop idles at 60-70C and on load can get to 110C and thermal shutdown is at about 125C. biggrin.gif

What CPU do you have in there?
