Oh ok, is this the first game that has seen this many (well only 3) improvements? Because in other games like Metro 2033, the only real difference I remember was slightly better smoke effects.

Guys tell me how this works, you can run a GeForce with a AMD card to get physix?

cool but how does it work? Do you just stick the card in to a free slot, not connect it to anything (other than power) and it just deals with physix?

Edit for that matter can you make it do 3d ? I have a 120hz monitor with that is locked to nvidia 3d

Yes they do get that hot easely, throttling your Boost clocks.
i have slapped an Arctic cooler on it though and with the fans at 7V it runs dead silent and never above 62 degrees.

The stock cooler is at load more silent then AMD stock coolers BUT Nvidia stock coolers make a very anoying noise when idle and AMD cards are completely silent then.
I found it very anoying to hear my card above everything while just browsing and such.

I have both currently in both rigs and... well -- It just seems to be better with the GTX 680's for me, not that the 7970's are bad. Most of the games I play (which are generally the bigger titles) run better with Nvidia.
And SLI is still a lot better than Crossfire from my experiences

EDIT:
Oh yeah
Just reference GTX 680's thumb.gif
EDIT EDIT::::: Well, I didn't really realize this was a 7970 vs GTX 670 debate... lol. Thought it was a GTX 680 debate. That said, I'd pick up the 7970's over the 670's. Unless you're worried about heat, noise and power consumption. But the 7970's are the faster card.

Performance between the 7970 and 680 is indeed debatable when both overclocked @ 1920x1080.
The 7970 is a clear winner though on higher resolutions.
On top of that when you overclock its more fun with AMD, with Nvidia i find it just anoying.

With fan noise you are right considering the 7970 vs 680's but its a different picture with stock 670 coolers. [Most horrible coolers ever made IMO]

Power draw isnt an issue for 99% of the people here but the 680's indeed are more efficient when it come's to that.

I think SLI is not better then CF at all, they are rather equal there again to, but fact is that most people that have 2 of these cards run high resolutions where the 7970 is just better.

Then you can debate Physx and Cuda against higher memory bandwith and compute power.

Flaming AMD for crap drivers is silly to, Nvidia drivers are just as crap atm. [not that you mentioned it though]

These cards are really close and it does seem that it come's down to personal preference alot.

For me its 7970>>680>>7950>>670
Maybe the 680 is the better card if you factor in Physx, Cuda, power efficiency and a better stock cooler but it just doesnt feel like that for me.
I would never flame somebody or stir them away from a 680 though if thats what they want, its obviously a great card to.

Its personal preference this time around wich seems to count the most.

Btw,
Dont think i am biased or so, i'm a reseller so cant really afford to be biased.... i want to sell them all lol wink.gif

Oh I understand exactly what you mean. That's why I said the GTX 680's were performing better for me, for the games that I play. That states that it can vary from person to person and game to game. I wasn't trying to bash the 7970's by any means, especially since I also own them and it's the rig my wife or friends use for what ever. Though the wife just plays sims rolleyes.gif

I didn't know the 670's fans were that bad compaired to the 680's... thought it was the same fan, thanks for pointing it out.

For the higher resolution's. The games that I play, the 680's still win out on it, but again, that's probably because that game is also biased. You're right that the overclock is more fun for the 7970 owners, but I feel that's because of the current 7970's. When they first released (when I got them) I had to play musical 7970's to get a couple high clocking ones that can match the performance of my GTX 680's overclocked. I think both of my 7970's ended up getting to 1250 mhz a piece, but the heat and noise were too much so I backed it down to 1200 on each and kept the fan speed at 60% or so and produces an audible sound.

My 680's, one gets 1300 and the other gets 1250. So I'm running in sli at 1250 with good temps and they're at stock voltage (thinking about doing the bios mod to see what I can really get) don't forget to point out that to achieve such clocks on the 7970's, you need a good voltage bump.... sucks that the 680's don't offer that.

Overall, it doesn't really matter, as you said -- It's personal preference and I had a hard time choosing to get another right with 7970's or 680's. I chose 680's simply because of the other features outside of performance and the fact that I haven't ran SLI for a long ass time thumb.gif

If i did want to grab a physx card what would i need to get to be worth it? Would a 460 768mb work or could i go even lower? I only have room for a single slot card down there though without having to reposition my PSU.
Congrats I'm sure you'll be more than happy.
