PXD38G1866ELK issues...

so... i bought these Patriot Viper Xtreme Division II 8gb of ram some time ago as a side grade. I couldn't run them even at stock with my x3 so i assumed it was my cpu holding me back.

Anyway, i got a used 1090T and i have been playing with it so far. (figured out my max cpu speed for my voltage 3.83 @ 1.35v and my NB speed for my voltage i want 2.92 @ 1.325v) but now... i started playing with my ram. Now this is where my frustation is mounting.

The default spec on the ram is 9-11-9-27 at 1866.

While i wasn't expecting it to run at that speed, i was hoping to get it to run at 1800 speed (225 FSB is what i'm hoping for here). Set my divider to 8x, and mem to 1.65v and auto timings (11-11-11-33) and doesn't even post. 1.67v doesn't post either. 1.69, 1.71v and 1.73v crashes during windows loading.

So i lowered my FSB to 209 (1672) instead and set the voltage to 1.67 and tried running it then. No luck.... Crashed during windows loading again. 1.69v crashed at the desktop. Same with 1.71. 1.73v errored immediatly in prime95. Keep in mind this is still with auto timings (11-11-11-33)

my cpu and nb were running with a mild OC but with their OC'd voltage (3.3ghz @ 1.35v and 2.4 @ 1.325) so i don't think the issue is there.

so... figuring my mem divider was killing my stability... i tried lowering my mem divider and it does run at 1626 (244 fsb 1.65v) at auto timings (9-9-9-27) and ran for 12 hours on prime without issue. Hoping to keep my cpu and nb speed i want, i tried running my fsb at 264 then (1766). I get to windows no problem at every voltage but errors immediately. I tried lowering my timings to 9-11-9-27 but i'm still getting errors immediately in prime. I tried running up to 1.73v while doing this.

anyway, any suggestions on how to get the 8x divider stable? If not, any suggestions on what to do to get my fsb stable at 264 on the memory?

Thanks.

P.S. i emailed patriot... they said the highest memory voltage i can go on the kit is 1.85v. Umm.... isn't that... CRAZY HIGH??!!!!!?!!

It's probably the Phenom II memory controller holding you back.

Start over.

Figure out your stable overclocks, one component at a time. Start with the CPU, then memory and CPU-NB.

You might find that your Phenom II just can't handle higher than DDR3-1600, so then try and lower timings to help compensate that.

1.85v is high, but normal. I seriously doubt that it will help raising it much more than 1.75v. You might want to loosen up those sub-timings.

Why? Phenom II is only supported by AMD up to 1333 on two dimms. It doesn't matter what your motherboard or memory supports if your CPU can't run it. That said, I have seen up to DDR3-2000CL7 on a Phenom II but it took some effort.

Hesho"

What's your Prosessor chip? Only for Deneb 955-965-975 and Zosma 960T or Thuban can go 3Ghz+ NB is required cpu-nb voltage are 1.45 up to 155v with good Cooling. NB clock on 2700-3000+ can run low CL 7-8-7 and 8-9-8 is need help cpu/nb voltage but not NB voltage.
explain me, I Run cpu clock 4.1Ghz on 1.475v and NB clock 3Ghz with 1.375 or 1.42v, memory Patriot Sector 5 12800ELK 2x8GB CL9. OC downgrade CL 8-9-8-20 1T 1.66v to rate PC1600 from default FSB 200Mhz

the cpu is a phenon II x6 1090T. Don't look at my profile. I plan on updating my profile when i find my OC level i want to run at. I'm kinda out of town right now so i can't play with my comp frown.gif Was hoping to have it completed by now but the ram has thrown a wrench into that plan. Before i left, i didn't do any hard stability test (like an hour of prime) but it was running at 1620 at 8-9-8-24. Just... dissapointed i can't run faster.

as for my last post... what the heck happened there? I just replied.... sorry about that.

and... i'm on my laptop... so sorry if there are a crap load of typos and such. Doesn't correct itself here :/
