If I recall, from Conviction, the idea was a Bourne style of gameplay. There's still stealth in the game, just like in Conviction (several levels are game over actually if you get spotted, Fairground comes to mind here), you just a choice to not use it rather than being forced to use stealth. You were also punished for failing to uphold stealth, but still given a chance to finish the level instead of automatic falure (in most cases).
What hurt Conviction in terms of stealth was removing actions and items that contributed to the player being able to play more stealthily. Like hiding bodies, etc. Mark and execute is totally optional in both games (for the most part). From what I recall alot of this has been remedied in Blacklist. It should (ideally) be better than Conviction from a stealth perspective.
I think this was the games redeeming feature. I still play a little Deniable Ops every now and then, it's pretty well done and paced well without being overly complicated like Chaos Theory was (though I did love the co-op in Chaos Theory also).

I liked it back in the day (Pandora tomorrow, chaos theory) when there was actually an open environment and you had a number of different options when it came to taking out the enemy and moving toward the next part of the level. You also had to aim and do everything yourself. Now you just point and click at the enemies and it does it all for you.
Another great series destroyed by ubi

Totally agree... I've played every Splinter Cell game but all the games after Chaos Theory sucked! Specially the last two. I miss the old Splinter Cell games =( they were so awesome and true stealth games plus the multiplayer was great.
