I don't know much about LN2 or LHE or anything, but as with everyone else it entertains me to watch it. I was thinking, these people are spending thousands of dollars on containers, liquid nitrogen, and the newest CPUs, has anyone ever made a pot at least partly of silver? Like a silver core right over the CPU and copper for the rest or something? Because silver is like 33% 12% better at conducting heat, and it's not even THAT expensive, it'd only be like $50 to buy enough for a core.

Is it 33% better? I thought it was more like 5-10% at best.

Pure silver is 235k at 68 degrees and copper is 223k

Did you not see that I put the 12% there? I tend to round down and up too much so I actually did the math.

Guess I didn't.

Another reason, Silver is around $28 an ounce, Copper is around $3.50 a pound. Silver is 350x more expensive than copper and only 5% more conductive.

I didn't mean for this to turn into a debate about practicality. I was just wondering if anyone's ever done it for a world record attempt or anything.

Yea, it's a different metal but the important bit is to know that thermal conductivity changes as a function of temperature. Different metals have different curves. Very few charts are linear, some appear VERY random.
Just because silver is better than copper at +50c or similar, means truely NOTHING for LN2 or LHe.
Somewhere out there (i'm looking) there are charts for different grades of silver and copper.
I am *reasonably* sure that the charts will show that the performance between the two is close enough that there is absolutely no reason to make a silver LN2 pot.
So... to answer your question, no-one has made one because of money

At -196c (77K) (the charts have an entry for 80K so i'll use that)
Silver: conductivity of 471W/mK
Copper: conductivity of 557W/mK
So.... with LN2 silver is performing WORSE and costs a lot more. If we were to use LHe, silver is pretty terrible.

Doesn't a lower W/mK mean it takes less heat to produce a temperature difference? That would mean silver is less resistant to temperature changes, therefore being a better heat conductor.
