Corsair Vengence 4x4 GB or 2x8 GB? - Page 2

Thread Starter
So basically all you guys are saying is to go 2x8GB and disregard the timings?
Timings aren't going to effect you all that much, doesn't make sense to fill up all your available slots right now when you can have good expandability later IMO smile.gif

if the timings are that close anyway

then Nothing to worry about

Plus you might be able to increase voltage a LITTLE bit and lower the timings some.

But thats fairly pointless

The old Adage for Intel was MOAR MHZ!! Higher Bandwidth was the way to go

AMD was always about Tight Timings. (this was extremely true in the DDR1 days when Socket 939 Machines were outperforming DDR2 Builds)

I had the exact same question as the OP. Both the 2x8GB 10-10-10-27 and 4x4GB 9-9-9-24 were the same price. I read a similar question on the Corsair website and many of the forum users stressed to NEVER combinate RAM from different sets even if it is the identical model number. What is the deal with this? I was going to buy 2x8GB now and then another 2x8GB of the same model when they are cheaper or I feel I need more. Is there much truth to this never combine any non-set RAM.

Also, is there any benefit or disadvantage to using 4 DIMMS over 2? Anything related to the different timings between the dual and quad channel sets?

Thanks.

No.

2 DIMMs lets you upgrade in the future.

A Quad kit just means they put 4 sticks in one package.
