they haven't tested those rads all that well yet, since they are very new, i'm not too sure where you start getting diminished returns in terms of fan speed

i'd just get either the 3000RPM gentle typhoon or the 4250RPM, mostly because i don't want to deal with the 50dBa of the 5400RPM version

and i think there might even be a mod where you can make the higher rpm gentle typhoon fans pwm controllable, but i'm not sure if they still have the circuitry on the fan itself for that, since it was just soldering on another while and crimping a fan header pin and switching the 3 pin connector to a 4 pin pwm fan connector

  • Is 0C delta on water unrealistic?
  • Why do I need a GPU, when my CPU already has a GPU?
  • Is 1200W to much? I like the quality of the PSU, and the fact that it matches the current color scheme.
  • Should I not use ivy bridge?

Sorry this is my first build.

**Update**

They started working on the drawings for my custom case! wheee.gif

I was told they would take about a week. I'll post them as soon as I receive them.

It is. Water is a lot better at removing heat than air, but think of it this way. Even if water was 100% efficient, the heat that it would be displacing and exhausting into your room would eventually cause the room to heat up, and then that would in turn make the air being drawn into your system hotter. If you could manage a 0C delta in short bursts, you probably wouldn't for longer periods of load.

Well OK, sure, the CPU can display video. But if you're OK with the quality of the integrated graphics, then you probably shouldn't be spending lots of money on the high-end motherboard, the i7, and the $500+ case. Heck, you could probably just air cool your system and it would be silent. If you're splurging on a mobo with a lot of OCing headroom, and a case that can support plenty of radiator real estate, you should definitely get a GPU.

Don't judge a PSU solely by its wattage. The Corsair unit you have selected is definitely good, but with the amount of load you'll be putting on it, it probably won't even be at an 80+ efficiency rating (I don't have data to support this, but I can say with a pretty good degree of certainty that it would at least be noticeably LESS efficient). Ivy bridge, and the newest generation of GPUs (nvidia in particular) are VERY efficient. You could probably cut your wattage in half and still have a beefy graphics card.

Ivy Bridge isn't necessarily "bad" but if you're getting a large case like the extended ascension and are planning on a nice, high-end build, you could go with a 3820 cpu which would give you plenty of pci-express bandwidth for multiple GPUs.

Sorry for the snide remark, but you definitely should have mentioned that in your first post smile.gif

And honestly, don't get those high speed fans. The amount of extra cooling they provide is minuscule in comparison to the extra noise they generate over say the Gentle Typhoon.

I definitely do want to get a high end graphics card (I'm a recovering gaming addict LOL), but It would have to be THE BEST, I would not accept anything less. I'd have to get the card, and a waterblock as well. I already spent $863 on the case, am going to spend a lot on the hardware, and watercooling. I figured I'd just give It a couple months or so before I did that. I just wanted not to have to re buy a psu, or motherboard, when I did upgrade later. I wanted to start out with the best, that way I can just add, without having to replace. IDK maybe thats stupid. :\

I'm checking out the "3820 cpu" right now. I really like that the motherboard already has the watercooling blocks built in frown.gif That only comes on 1155.

Maybe you'll know. If I told you I want the best cooling possible and nothing less. Could you tell me, this pump, this triple 120mm radiator, and these quadrupedal 120mm radiators, with these fans, this reservoir, etc... And nothing else will give you better performance, because this is the best.. All I want is to buy the best. I have an 120mm exhaust next to the motherboard, 120mm exhaust next to the two psu cutouts, 2 triple 120mm slots in the front (capable of housing 2 triple 120mm radiators with 15mm spacing), and 12 120mm cutouts on the top (capable of housing 3 120mm quadruple radiators with 15mm spacing). And there are no space constraints with the radiators (I can use literally any size radiator, I made sure when I customized it)

Thanks for all your help
